It depends on where you live or if you are willing to relocate and what your specific area of interest is. I work in a small county hospital just north of Seattle and we have some openings for RN's. I met one nurse on this site who was moving here and she just came to work at our facility and loves it. If you are out this way or willing to relocate, let me know and I will tell you more about the place. I have been there 4 years and I LOVE MY JOB.

I volunteered at a Free Clinic - the hospital is a good idea for networking reasons, but I have always liked the Clinics, I feel more like I'm really helping the community. I also got MANY job leads, and learned A LOT!

It's funny, now that I have my job I am seeing more and more GN (inc. RN's with

Many of our hospitals (Tampa) are only hiring GN's whom already work within the hospital as techs, etc.

Yikes - what crazy peeks and valleys there are in the HC industry!

I am also a pre-nursing student and I have talked to students in the nursing program at my university and when I asked them are they worried about getting a job they had no idea that GN's are having a hard time finding jobs. I was surprised. They assumed that once they graduated they would automatically get a job. Hopefully things will change!

Where do you live? In California its extremely competitive right now. If you are flexible about moving and what area you work in at first, you can probably still get a job.

Hey Mag,

I applied a little over a year ago. From what I can tell the market hasn't changed much in job openings. Just stay away from hospitals near the border. Those places offer great pay and incentives, but tend to run unsafe practices that can put you license or safety in jeopardy.

Start applying.

Good Luck! ;)

Many, many congratulations!! I'm surprised every time I read about posters that have graduated without applying for positions. What a shame your school didn't encourage this. We got our jobs lined up during the winter break of our senior year.
