RN trying to enter Air Force failed hearing test
You should be able to get a waiver no problem. Like said earlier try to get a retest, if not you should qualify for a waiver. Waivers are based on the idea on how your condition could somehow affect your ability to do your job, both stateside and deployed. Most of the time there is guidance for MD's to follow on who is required to have what. I deal with waivers all day and I advise pt's that sometimes their condition might be harder to pass, but in the end its the decision of MD's, not me or recruiters.

Future AF nurse with RN spouse
My wife and I are both nurses. We both joined the Air Force due to spouses we knew having problems finding jobs once the military spouse PCS'd. In San Antonio it is extremely easy for any type of nurse, LVN to BSN, to find a job. Elsewhere I know it takes an average 6months to find a job, sometimes only finding per diem jobs.

Air Force Student Loan Repayment (or lack thereof??)
Me and my wife finished March COT and took the loan repayment and bonus(40k repayment and 20kbonus) for 6 years. We both got our 20k bonus about a week after being at our pcs, it ended up being 15k each. The lady doing my loan is doing very well with keeping in touch with me with the process, I've yet to get the loan paid, but she said they will I'll get 72% of the 40k and the rest towards taxes.

Masters online
Ok for the past few weeks I've been looking for masters programs in nursing management. I'm particularly looking for online programs since I'm in the military, especially those that consider themselves military friendly. If anyone could tell me of the schools they attended and what they thought would be much appreciated.

Waiting for the release of the January 2010 Air Force Boards for Nursing
I just want to quote you what MANY of my former military member coworkers have quoted me, "Hurry up, and WAIT". In other words fill out the paper work they give you as soon as possible and keep in touch with your recruiter. Keep copies of everything, and expect to wait to hear anything. I started applying in January of 08, and because of "life" I am finally leaving March '10. It can be a long process, but it is well worth it. Keep in touch if you need any help.

travel time to permanent duty station
After reviewing my orders I want to confirm something. On the front page of my orders it states "Officer will report to the 24-hour arrival point at the permanent duty station not later than 19 days after completion of temporary duty". On the back side it states 1. Authorized 3 days travel from home to first duty station if travel is by privately owned vehicle. Authorized 7 days travel from TDY station to permanent station. I plan on driving from Maxwell AFB to Travis AFB in California (36 hour drive). So does that mean I have 7 days to get to Cali, but authorized leave of up to 12 days for a total of 19 days or am I authorized 10 days to get there and 9 days leave for a total of 19 days.

Air Force Loan Repayment
Ok my wife and I met with our recruiter today and I asked him what it meant to be an alternate. He said that the sign on bonus is still available, but loan repayment money has run out. As an alternate should someone back out you could take their loan repayment or possible get your bonus's next fiscal year.

Air Force Loan Repayment
Did you already sign papers for the loan repayment bonus. My wife and I are getting commissioned tomorrow and I know we have more paperwork to sign, but i hope we don't have sign for less money.

Pay at COT
I was planning on putting my belongings in a climate controlled facility due to a lot of my electronics being very sensitive to humidity. That was one of the reasons I was thinking of not using the Pods company. As far as I know the government will store my stuff, but I'm not sure if they will keep my stuff in an air conditioned humidity controlled area. http://www.studentloanborrowerassistance.org/repayment/postponing-repayment/deferments/ According to that website there is no time limit on military deferment. Also you only accrue interest from non subsidized loans, whereas on subsidized loans the government will pay the interest.

Pay at COT
I've heard the military will move you but i don't know the process. Such as if I store it with a local storage facility other than the military, and the military is supposed to move it, will they send someone to pack from the storage facility into a moving truck and drive it to me in California. Mindinphx...my wife and I are both going in with experience so luckily we get to bypass NTP and go straight to our first duty station. I remember not long ago I found a site that talks a bit about moving, weights limits, etc. Anyone know of sites explaining this.

Pay at COT
From what everyone has said about being delayed pay I'm trying to save enough to be fine if I don't get paid during COT and 2 weeks after. Unfortunately both me and my wife are going to COT at the same time, so I have to save double. I'm just trying to figure out how much I'll have after is said and done. From paying for everything at COT, student loans, car, moving to another state, rent deposits and utility deposits, everything is adding up. I know the air force reimburses you some of these things, but actually having the money to do everything and then wait for the military to reimburse you is near impossible. I just got a quote from Pods.com to store my belongings while at COT then move it from San Antonio, TX to Vallejo, California for $2900

Pay at COT
From my understanding the military pay days are every 1st and 15th. COT starts March 6th or 9th, I can't remember. I know it'll probably take 2 weeks or longer to set up direct deposit, but when I do get paid is it a full pay check for being there from beginning march to the 15th or is it a partial sum. Also i read somewhere your base pay is that of an E-5. Are you only paid the base pay or did it also include allowances.

What's your ratio
I currently work on a 40 bed tele unit. Since I live in San Antonio, alot of doctors transfer their patients from the southern part of Texas to our hospital. In part I think because we have more technology to offer, but also because more than a few doctors have stated they preferred having their patients on our floor rather than anywhere else (unless the patient should be in ICU). Needless to say we have very sick heavy patients on our floor. Our floor is very busy, but the safest in the hospital(in my opinion). Our ratio used to be 4:1 days, 5:1 nights with about 2 aides days and nights. Initially we were told under extreme circumstances we could stretch to +1 days and nights. We fought it believing that sooner or later it would become the standard and told we could stretch even farther. Sure enough after 2 wks of 6:1 nights I was told we would go to 7:1. We threatened safe harbor and they backed down. Even at 6:1 Im seeing seasoned nurses making amatuer but potentially distatorous mistakes. With all our seasoned nurses leaving Im worried the 4 new grads hired at nights will allow management to go 7:1. So as my question states, what is everyone else s ratio. Our sister hospital does 7:1 tele, but transfer their difficult patients to us.

Duty Stations
I live in San Antonio and grew up across the street from Lackland AFB. I talked to the CNO of Lackland for my interview and she said they were making their hospital bigger. So I would expect there to be tons of open slots for Lackland for whoever would like it as their duty station.

Bonus's Taxed
I'm so glad you posted this. I was just thinking about this yesterday. I figure once they take the money it's gone forever, but I was worried about being bumped up a tax bracket. Me and my wife took the loan repayment and bonus. With the bonus's and our military pay we'll easily be in the next tax bracket.
