Hello, could someone please tell me what is the difference between the atkins diet and the south beach diet. I have already looked at the websites but it is still not clear to me. Also does anyone suggest one over the other or have ANY comments about either? Also I am a red meat vegitarian, and I don't eat eggs either.
Atkins diet: eat all the saturated fat you can: bacon, eggs, sausage, fry your ham in butter. Very, very few veggies, no fuits or grains for the induction period. still very restrictive on them later.
South Beach: High quality, low sat. fat protein. Fats should come mainly from reduced fat cheeses and lean meats, fish. More veggies in the first two weeks, but like Atkins, for the first two weeks, then gradually add fruit/whole grains starting week 3. More balanced overall.
For those with insulin resistance or syndrome X, higher protein, lower carbs seems to be the best way to go for a healthier lifestyle.

Funny how some of these threads go so dreadfully sour over next to nothing! stldmbfan, you never did get an answer to the question. I don't blame you for being offended, but cool it with the all caps, please.
The South Beach diet puts the focus on good carbs, bad carbs and good fats, bad fats.
Atkins allows all proteins/fat and low carbs.
There is alot more to it, but those are the basics. Sounds like South Beach would be more agreeable to your eating style, of the two.
