those who wrote letters and sent emails to dr.phil about what he said about nurses in his show, i just want to let you guys know that he read part of the letter that was sent to him and he apologized about it in his show today. he should have quoted what he actually said in his show but he didnt. he didnt sound very apologetic, he sounded a little sarcastic and belittling. he said that professional image is very important and that nurses are backbone of medical field.
so i want to thank all of you who sent letters and emails to dr. phil and speaking up for nurses!!!!!!! :)
My 2 cents (1 cent on the world market these days):
Dr. Phil is in SHOW business. His real feelings and prejudices don't enter into the equation at all. He's more akin to a barking seal slapping its flippers for sushi than to a therapeutic approach to modern life. I'm sure it's not easy - to make things controversial but not too controversial, to tease the next segment and to wrap up each segment on time for a word from his sponsors (which is where the real clout is when you want a letter campaign to make a difference).
Framing the key issues for the January show on the nursing profession is worth doing. What do you want it to address? Is it better to focus on how good people can enjoy their pursuit of happiness in this field or on how necessary nurses are to everyone as they move through life?
I think the visuals on that show should not include any "naughty nurse" stills (but probably will for "contrast"). Any of the Discovery Health channel episodes that show real nurses would be better.
