Your hospital trained you as a new grad and you signed a contract. You HATE your job now. Is it better to stay or leave and payback $$$$$$?
I've heard of nurses leaving and paying, but most stay. Then bail after their contract ends. What are your thoughts?

I'd say it is probably a personal choice, but I have since decided that the contracts make sense. If they spend 2-3 months training a person (basically paying them and another person for the "same" job/patient care), recouping nothing but the wages from that 2-3 months is fair. Perhaps with a decrease based on time worked or something.

Again, as CalicoKitty pointed out, it's a personal choice. Less than a year ago, I took a position at a local hospital that I really hated. I was paid the first installment of a $10.000 sign on bonus but was so unhappy, I had no problem paying back the money and getting out of there for greener pastures.

Hard to answer as a hypothetical, is the hate of the job based on a truly unsafe situation, or just not nice to be there? is there another opportunity that looks better? No one can really answer for someone else what the right thing would be for them. I'm a bit old fashioned and would probably go with the old list of pros and cons and take it from there.

I've heard that if you leave and don't pay it back they will financially come after you. Is that true?

I paid it back in good faith but I've heard that some hospitals don't attempt to recoup their bonus. A lot of it probably depends on how much is owed honestly
