Did you leave soon after your "One Year"?

Nurses New Nurse

Hello everyone:

I wanted to read the experiences of any nurses who left their jobs after getting that one year of experience? Was it easy finding another job? Did it take long to find the next job? Has your one year passed, and you are still looking for that dream job you didn't get the first time around? Thanks in advance!

I left my first nursing job at nine months. I was extremely unhappy and I needed a change of scenary. Now, I'm about to leave my second job at six months to do agency and travel nursing.

I see nothing wrong with at least applying for other positions with less than 1 yr at a facility. Let THEM decide if they want to hire you. There is nothing wrong with applying.

Most hospitals or LTC that have people leave before their "one year" is up are used to it and usually have some inherent problems that lead to high turnover.

I can say from experience that in today's market, it is not frowned upon to leave before a year. I landed two positions after 10 mos. new grad experience. It's all about how you present yourself on paper and interviewing. It can happen!

Specializes in acute care.

Update: I was successful at landing another job before my year was up. I'm now working 2 jobs.

Bumping the thread up to read of other experiences.

I've been on my floor for about 14 months now and two years previously as a tech. I have worked other jobs - seasonal clinics, screenings, asc - to develop other skills but am most looking forward to putting in to transfer by December at the 18 month mark. My floor has worn me out and I honestly look forward to a change in scenery with all the nonsense that goes on. I would like to try a similar surg floor at a sister facility closer to home and am waiting to pounce on an internal job posting. *fingers crossed*
