Did I ruin my chances?

I am 22 and I am taking my prereqs at a community college. I was taking Micro and A&P2 and I was doing great in those classes but during this spring semester my father passed which made me so depressed and my grades suffered because of it.

I got a D in Micro and a F in A&P2.

I know for sure I could of gotten an A in both of those classes if it wasn't for my depression at the time.

I am taking them again in Summer semester but now I am worried no school will accept me even if I receive an A since I am repeating them. Are my chances ruined?

Some schools accept retakes and some do not. Some average the retaken grade and original grade together. Check with the program you're interested in and see what they look for. You're down, but you may not be out.

If you lost a parent I would look at your student handbook and investigate what your school's emergency withdrawal policy is. Some schools will allow you to retroactively withdraw from classes due to extenuating circumstances such as traumatic events or medical problems. If there is nothing in the handbook talk to staff in the Dean of Student's office.

This will wipe the slate clean and allow you to repeat the semester.

^ Yes it's definitely worth seeing if that is a possibility since you suffered a huge loss.
