Diamonds in school?

Published

Well this is a silly question and I don't even care but I'm just curious.. Why can't you wear diamond earrings in nursing school? I have heard it mentioned here and I know you can't in our school (only silver or gold studs or pearls). Is there something I don't know about diamonds?

I don't go to clinical without my PDA either, Kris. Shoot, I've got everyone in my clinical group, my clinical instructor AND two of the RN's that use it when we have our clinical day! Actually, several have decided to ask for one for Christmas.

I have Taber's, Davis Drug Guide, IV flow rates, and Nursing Dx manuals on it. I'd have to bring a wheeled backpack to bring all of those books, and couldn't find things in mere seconds like I do with my PDA, and it's with me all the time, so I don't need to go to the nurses station to look something up.

So, yes, I certainly agree! They'll have to rip the thing out of my dead hands to get me to give it up! LOL

"forgo wearing my thongs..."

Do you mean the shoe kind or the underwear kind? LOL

I wear my diamond studs (though not as large as yours). My wedding ring has a pear shaped diamond with ring guards on each side with round and marquise diamonds. Comes to a point on each side, and I have ripped gloves with them. So to clinical I wear my diamond eternity band and no one has said anything to me about it yet.

As far as the shoe thing go, I don't see what the big deal is with clogs. I love my clogs. We have to wear solid white full shoes. They are so ugly and uncomfortable. Today I bought myself a pair of (mostly) white Sketchers clog tennis shoes and will wear them with my drawstring waist, boot cut solid white scrub pants to clinical. They will cover up the fact that they are clogs. That's one good thing about my clinical instructor, she doesn't make a big deal out of things like that. As long as we look professional, we're alright.

We wear our hair up (which I hate), the ugly little Landau button up student nurse top and are supposed to wear the Landau pants with the pleat down the front (yuck) but they don't care if we wear pants without pleats (thank goodness). At least I don't have to wear the hat and blue pinstripe apron I had to wear in LPN school:rotfl:

I wear 4 ct (2 each) princess cut diamond earings and I will take them out over my dead body. They were a gift from my husband for getting in to nursing school. and they have not been out of my ears since. Now, I wear the whites and I even forgoe wearing my thongs, I wear the dumb white shoes with the white socks, my hair up (thank god for fake hair) and I wear the spacer for my tongue piercing. But never will those earrings come out of my ears. and when i lose enough weight to wear my huge wedding set than I will. I have taken gloves on and off with it for years and never had a issue. I am tired of people saying you shouldn't wear your diamonds at the hospital because it might people feel bad. well my husband works his butt off to buy me the jewelry that I have and I am not ashamed of it. And as for the poster that made the comment about cell phones and pdas: I will never come to work without my pda. If i need to look up a drug i can. wake up this is the electronics age.

my 2 cents

Kris
