Circumcision questions

My wife would like me to be circumcised and I was wondering what I can expect during my first office visit to the urologist and after the operation. My wife has already made me an appointment with a urologist, and she wants me to come in for a pre-op exam before she does the operation. Also, a girlfirend of hers recommended that I get a "high and tight". What exactly is that, and is this a procedure you would recommend? Do you women advocate circumcision?

If you don't have a physical problem and need a circumcision, I wouldn't see any point in doing it. I can't imagine telling my husband that he should have that kind of surgery, and obviously discussing it with my girlfriend. Why does she want you to do it?

I did a lot of research on circumcision when I started having children, high and tight just refers to removing a greater amount of the foreskin as far as I know. Many doctors in recent years have done the opposite, and done a more moderate removal that does not take as much skin, to avoid it being too tight & complications that may go along with that.

I'm kind of with Mimi2RN, but good luck whatever you choose.

This is a nursing website. Your best bet for information would be to ask your doctor about the questions or concerns you have, really.

I'm with the other two posters: why? And to make your appt for you? If it's not broke, why fix it? My husband is uncirc'ed as is my one year old son, several people I know aren't circing their boys. It's a personal choice but why undergo surgery if everything works ok?

That said, I assist with circs all the time in the nursery but they are newborns and things will be much different for you. Ask your doctor what to expect.

I've considered undergoing this procedure because I've felt uncomfortable being uncircumcised my entire life. When I discussed the matter with my wife, she said that she was ok with whatever decision I came to, but that she prefers a circumcised member: she feels that it is more visually appealing and more sanitary. I haven't discussed it with a doctor because I haven't completely made up my mind yet. I wanted input, because I feel like a lot of women have hidden feelings regarding circumcision that they don't reveal because they don't want to hurt someone's feelings. My wife has not been forceful, insensitive, or calloused at all, but I do know what her preference is in this area. Thank you for responding.
