Had a similar problem with my Presario laptop. Took it in to get fixed, they told me it would take at least 2 weeks.
I'm doing an online humanities class, a stats class at school and looking for a job.
I tried to go without a computer and just use the college library...that was a nightmare.
I went to Walmart and got their cheapest computer; an eMachines PC for $298...score!!
I love Macs, I've had them in the past. But as a student they are a pain since most of the cds that come with books don't run on Mac. And its a pain to run the powerpoints for online classes and to create uploadable documents for class.
My college uses Angel, which runs perfectly and fast on IE, but with Firefox or Safari its much slower and fickle.
The day before my semester started my HP crapped the bed. Got a virus or something so it pretty much was done. I had to reformat the whole computer and then it wouldn't run because the virus was missing... So I bought a MacBook, too. Haha, I love this computer, it's so sleek. The only problem I have with it is that I can't apply for jobs at the one hospital system I really want to work for because the online applications they have are not compatible with Mac. Grr.

Try accessing the website you want in firefox not safari.
I've been on websites that are only formatted for Explorer, its a pain when you have a Mac and Mac doesn't support IE.
I do like Windows7, so far so good. Its quite intuitive and def better than Vista.
Yeah, before I got this cheapo eMachines I went to the college library to do my online class. The computers there sucked and the library was not conducive to studying since I'm easily distracted. I ended up doing my quiz quickly and failed it, at least I got 100% on the paper I had to write that day and turn in.
Did you get your touchsmart in Dec 09 or Dec 08? Wondering because if you just got it in December, it should still be under warranty and should be fixed for free after that short a time. I would have it repaired under warranty so you have a computer to give to someone or a backup, emergency computer. I'm hunting the warranty papers for mine.
I've been thinking about installing Windows 7 on my windows partition to see what its like. I stopped using macs awhile back because of the limitations but since the new intel chip macs came out I switched back and have found I haven't had to switch over to the windows partition in months but yeah during nursing school I had to boot into windows alot for the Cd's but at least I get the luxury of having it both ways which is nice

Yesterday my HP touchsmart computer I bought for myself christmas '09 totally broke down on me. it started making these weird noises. I had a huge final to take for my online stat's class--- and out of desperation, 20 min before store closing I bought myself a new laptop computer..... it's a macbook, it's so nice, I love it! but as you know, us students have to write APA style papers. I used Perrla program, and as always-- perrla not compatible with mac computers.
bummed, I thought I would have to return my little beautiful mac, but I found a site that is similar to perrla and works with mac, Its called reference point software, and it works for real! its $27.99
I am so happy because with this mac I passed my Stat test.... yay for me :) but not good for my pocket, so I have to sign up to work a little extra hours this month to make up for it. this mac is expensive, more expensive than my HP touchsmart.
so for all of us students out there with macs, we have a program too!
