Desperately seeking school nurse job but

Desperately seeking school nurse position but can't get one. No job, no interview. Not many positions posted to begin with. I am so sad, I feel this is my calling in so many ways. :o

How did you do it? What got your foot in the door so to speak? What can I do? How did you get your interview? I am afraid it is too late in the job hunting season and the school season is about to begin in a few months. I keep checking every website and the positions posted seem to be filled so quickly. Maybe school nursing application process is a little different than hospital recruiters that call the minute you fax your resume or email it. I would appreciate any and all advice! If you feel more comfortable please PM me. Please???!

What is your background in nursing? Are you trying inner cities or suburbs?

Any special skills that would make you more marketable?

Have you contacted any school districts on your own, or are you just waiting

for something to get posted? Many jobs get filled before the actual posting goes out.

You need to get your name out there in the arena...........have you contacted any school nurses in your area to find out how they got started?

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Here in the Midwest - at least in central Illinois - our school districts cut funding for school nurses - there aren't any! Is that an issue in your area? Good luck...

I am going to try the inner city schools today, I was looking at suburban ones. My background is 2 years in Adult ER with floating to Pedi ER and PICU.

I have done volunteer work with children also. I think I am intimidated too because schools can be intimidating. The hierarchy seems so different unlike the hospitals.

Specializes in Emergency.

Good luck in your continued search!

I am a school nurse enjoying the summer. I got my foot in the door by first becoming a substitute. Our school district first offers any openings to their subs.

In NC there seems to be a shortage of school nurses. It was on the news the other day, that schools have been sharing nurses. Now, I am not sure if that's because of Nursing shortage, or budget shortage. However, if you are willing to relocate, you may be able to apply in NC, around the Fayetteville, Raleigh, Durham area. Unfortunately, I do not know of any specific school that is hiring at this time, but you could do some research. God bless.:)
