Hi! I'm an EC student from Oklahoma. I am desperately seeking advice from those students who are also in the program and progressing right along. I just can't find my "groove" when it comes to studying! I have tried several different ways, even some I've read on this board, but I still feel completely overwhelmed! I would appreciate any advice that anyone could offer. Thanks! :scrying:

I would highly recommend paying for your exams and scheduling them. That seems to work for me. It took me a really long time to schedule and take my first exam... I also would suggest utilizing a TCN or Chancellor's workbook. Most people do buy all the recommended text books as well, but I find that it overwhelms me having that much material to refer too.

I'm not saying I'm an expert! I've only taken NC 1 and pretty much used only the TCN book. I plan on doing the same for NC 3 as well as taking the Excelsior practice tests.

Hope this helps!

I've started to use a book called the "Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination", along with my other textbooks. It's basically a condensed presentation of what you need to know to pass the NCLEX exam. I'm studying cardiology with it right now, and it really helps establish a conceptual framework of the subject, so you don't feel like you're drowning in a sea of unrelated little facts.

Read the reviews on Amazon. It's a popular study book for nursing students in school, and also for NCLEX preparation. I would be interested to hear if other EC students are using this book.

Schedule your exams a head of time. After I took my first test, it took me 5 months until I took my next one when I decided I needed to get a move on this. So I decide to schedule all my exams and took the rest of them 2-3 weeks apart. It gives you a deadline that you have to be ready by, like a traditional school, which motivated me to study. This also helps with getting the appointments you want or need at Pearson Vue. If you don't feel you're ready when the test date comes you can always cancel ahead of time and reschedule.

I agree with scheduling the tests ahead of time. Another thing is to pick a study method and stick with it. There are many choices out there, but you will get bogged down timewise if you are trying to use too many. Good luck!
