Okay School Nurses,
Let's hear from you all...tell me what your day is like. The age groups you work with. How the staff and faculty respond to you, etc..... Thanks all !
Get in early around 7:30 am. Turn on computer, check to see if I need more ice packs in my freezer. Get fresh water for my pitcher on med cart. Prepare meds for that day. Log onto school nurses system. Confer with teacher about student. Kids coming in right off of bus, say's they are sick and Mother said to call her if they don't feel better ...... Just an attendance game, so student can get perfect attendance award at end of year ...
Bloody noses, vomiting, fevers, minor scrapes. Do some vision screenings, do some filling, speak with a few doctors, many calls from parents. Two girls with lice, now go check the classes. Daily Meds kids coming in from 11:30 - 2:00 pm. Tried to take a lunch, but too busy. More sickies, and I can't reach parents. Have to put them on the bus at the end of the day, and bus driver gets "pissed" at me. What else can I do ?? Talk with a few parents about health issues. Do a few blood pressures for two teachers.
Leave school exhausted, but thankful that there were no major catasrophies that day. Do it all over again tomorrow ! LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT
