Hey everyone! I figured I would start a thread for us in the May 2011 cohort, so we aren't hijacking the 2010 thread anymore. :)
I just sent in my tuition deposit, and can't wait to find out the next steps. Of course there are the generic things like background checks, CPR/BLS, and health clearances, but I'm excited to find out about textbooks, uniforms, etc. I've already started shopping around for a stethoscope, nursing shoes, and possibly an ipod touch. I'm probably wasting way too much time that I should be spending finishing up my bachelor's and pre-reqs! I have one course left (online) to complete my B.S. in psych from the University of Georgia, and I'm taking Chem II at the local CC. I live exactly 30 min from DeSales so I won't need to relocate.
Just out of curiosity, what other programs did you all apply to? I was denied by Duke, but accepted by Drexel. Thomas Jefferson denied me from their 12-month BSN, but invited me to interview for the 3-year BSN/MSN track. I declined the interview because I knew I was going to DeSales. My DSU interview was with the head of the accelerated program and I got such a good vibe from her. Hopefully all the faculty cares as much about the success of their students as she does. The DeSales program seems in stark contrast to some of other programs in the area, where the entering classes are huge and then are drastically weeded down. It seems as though DSU expects all of their students to succeed.
So, here's to our new nursing family, together all the way to graduation.

Hi Kate! I turned in my tuition deposit last week and got an email from Nora regarding the emails I will be receiving from the school. You are soo lucky you won't need to relocate. I am coming from CA so I will def have to get my living situation handled asap. I am debating on getting an apartment and graduate housing. I am leaning towards graduate housing tho since I don't know anyone to have as roomates. It seems more convenient to school and that it is already furnished too. But I really want the idea of having a kitchen to use in the weee hours of the night when I get hungry haha. So I am still debating.
I am super excited to meet everyone and am trying really hard to prepare for May! Please keep in touch! Someone already put up a page on facebook...so hope to see you there too! here's the link: Incompatible Browser | Facebook (if the link doesn't work...search "DeSales Accelerated BSN Class of 2012"

HI!!
I found the link for facebook :-P Can't wait to get started! I want to get all the health/background things done ASAP-- esp those titers! Yikes!
Sabrina
Sabrina, I am reading Pharmacology to get ready. My friend Kelly (who is going through the program right now) suggested it!
Everyone can hang out at my parents' house on the weekend for dinner and to study together - mi casa su casa! :)
Pharmacology would be a great idea! However, I took a pharmacology course during my bachelors AND I work at a pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician.... so hopefully there is something else I can read up on other than that lol Keep me posted! Would love to create study groups! How far away do you live? I am just 10mins from the college in Beth!

Hi! I am applying to desales this application cycle, when did you all have your interviews and hear your admissions decisions? Thanks!
Michele, I was one of the students in the class from 2011-12...I would not recommend this program to anyone but especially this university. There are lots of dramas and dean/faculty members picking sides against one another not to mention their obsession of failing students out of the program as many as possible. Our class had to send numerous letters to the provost of the school to get some classmates reinstituted. Be forewarned: There is no support system whatsoever while you are going through it! Good luck! You can email me at [email protected] for more details.
I am currently an accelerated BSN DeSales student... it really is not that bad. The pace is fast... the material is difficult... you have to teach yourself quite a bit (obviously, because how else do you get a bachelors in 15 months?!) It is the only accelerated BSN program in the Lehigh Valley. The faculty do not spoon feed material to the students. Go to class, pay attention, do your work and you should be fine. The faculty also will not hold your hand through the program. If you start to fall behind, what can they do about it?! Nothing. This is not a community college, 2 year associates program. It really is difficult. More than half of our students are doing just fine. Other than MAYBE a few special cases, those that had issues over the summer were not prepared for the intensity. They are lucky they were allowed back in the program after not meeting the GPA requirement. I have not heard of any other program allowing students who don't meet requirements by the end of a semester to stay. That is ridiculous. The 1st summer was an eye-opener. Definitely a rough start for everyone. But YOU are responsible for your own learning. I honestly believe this program is no different from any other accelerated BSN program, other than the fact that we have to take 2 theology courses. I absolutely will be graduating Summer 2012, as will majority of the class. If you want more info-- visit the college, ask to meet with CURRENT accelerated nursing students.
Michele... to answer your question, I tried to interview as early as possible (can't remember what the dates were). The admission committee meets sometime in December, and I got my acceptance letter by the end of December. :)
I interviewed in mid Dec & was accepted in the beginning of Jan. It was very exciting! :) There is alot of tasks to accomplish before May! Titers, background checks, drug testing, & misc. things! Good luck on your decision!
Thank you for the helpful responses! I expect it to be very challenging, I've talked to friends who have done programs like these at other schools and said how fast-paced they are and that you have to do a lot on your own. Any helpful tips for preparing for the interview? What did you do to prepare for yours? Thanks.:)
