Denver School of Nursing (DSN) July 2015 Start

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I'm curious as to whether any other prospective July 2015 DSN students have heard back from admissions yet...

I'm still waiting on them to cash my check, but I was in touch with a counselor about polishing up my package recently, so I know at least some progress is being.

At any rate, I'm interested in DSN b/c Nursing school is too damn expensive in California, even w/ the GI Bill >.

edit: And I'd also like to live in a place like Denver for college. Best part is if I like it I can stay in Colorado and not have to wait 6 months (which is the minimum wait in Cali for new licenses apparently!) for the state to issue me a license after my NCLEX.

Hey everyone! I just got my email and was chosen as an alternate as well :( pretty sad about it. But I talked to the dean of admissions months ago, and he said most of the alternates end up getting accepted because there are a lot of people who are unable to secure the loans, or are not able to stop working for the program..fingers crossed for everyone else on the alternate list, and congrats to everyone chosen for the interview!

We will be okay. Just stay positive. At least we are considered for the October cohort automatically if not selected for July.

I have been chosen as an alternate as well... does anyone know if we really have to wait until may to find out if we have been the chosen alternate? Just seems like a long time to wait.

Just wondering what everyone's qualifications were that they applied with? I'm thinking maybe I'm an alternate because I had 2 pending prerequisites. I applied with a 3.7 BS GPA and a 4.0 in the pre reqs I do have, but do not have any healthcare experience.

I have one pending pre req(micro), 3.5 GPA, no bachelors degree, and three years CNA acute care experience...

Do they send an email if you don't get in or make the alternate list? Haven't heard getting nervous =[

I had one pending pre-req. (PSY-Human Development) 3.3 GPA, I think my pre-req GPA was closer to 3.5. I'm finishing my CNA course right now, will be done in March. Have worked in a clinic for almost two years, but not "hands on" (patient coordinating) and I am in my second semester as an A&P lab teaching assistant (unpaid and not for credit). Was hoping that might help since I lack volunteer experience. I don't think we have to wait until May- I think they just have until May to pull us from the list and notify us.

Yes, they send an email saying you're on the list as an alternate and will be considered for October cohort if not selected this time. Don't get nervous yet! I think the emails come in waves, from my understanding. But check spam too.

I'm hoping its alphabetical waves because I'm way at the end and that would mean there's still hope lol

I just got an email saying I've been accepted pending an interview... Just set my interview for March!

I was told by Jeff @ DSN not to worry if you get put on the alternatives list though, b/c so many people who get accepted wind up not going due to how expensive the school is.

I think he said that he estimated something like 90% of the alternatives got the opportunity to be accepted last year when I asked for statistics on acceptance.

@KDowney I got accepted w/ a 3.7 GPA with 2 pending pre-reqs (random science class and advanced algebra), am TA for the Nutrition dept, and tutor all the Nursing science pre-reqs...

I think I clinched my acceptance because of my military record though, as I don't have any real clinical experience or recent volunteer work under my belt... It probably doesn't hurt that, as a male, I'm considered a minority candidate for Nursing programs.

Good luck, hopefully you'll hear from DSN about getting selected for an interview as other candidates decide against attending!
