Hi everyone!
I know this is a little early, but is anyone applying to Denver College of Nursing for the October start?

I'm applying. Didn't get accepted into UCD's Traditional Nursing program this year, and I thought I was a strong candidate my my 4 medical certifications and 3.65 GPA. After this last semester of finishing all my pre-req's I should have a 3.7 overall GPA, and hopefully that's good enough for this program. I hear lots of people don't make it in the first few times applying to Nursing school. I was super salty I didn't even get wait-listed for the UCD program and people with lower GPA's did. To be fair though, I got super nervous and somewhat bombed the group interview. I wasn't as fully prepared for their questions as I should have been.
Questions for anyone who has applied to DCN's program:
-Whats the interview process like? One on one? Group? Casual get to know you, or impossible to win personality contest?
-Does holding medical certifications and having volunteer experience actually help getting in here? Or is salaried work experience in the medical field valued more? (I'm certified but I didn't work in the field...)
-Hows your experience been applying or reapplying?
-Any tips for the essay?
-Are you feeling hopeful, or stressed about the odds? (I'm a bit stressed, that UCD denial has got me questioning myself!)
This is now my third time applying. I applied for October 2020 & got waitlisted, then denied. I applied for July 2021 and got denied. I've talked to a few people who are currently in the program to try to get some insight on how to make my application "better". I really feel like every session is different, which makes this so hard.
I can try to answer your questions based on what I know!
1. I believe the interview process is one-on-one, but it is not necessarily an interview. From my understanding, once you receive the interview invite email, you are accepted. The interview is more of a tour around the school and to discuss financial aid options.
2. From what I can tell, experience really just depends. I applied for Oct 2020 and had no work experience, but got waitlisted. I then reapplied for July 2021 and had 7 months as a CNA in a senior living & got flat denied. I really can't tell if it matters that much.
3. I've had good experiences applying & now reapplying. Obviously, it's very discouraging to just keep applying over and over, but I'm trying not to give up.
4. My first time applying, I really focused on why I want to be a nurse & personal experiences that led me here. The second time I tried to follow the prompt more and discuss my goals and experience in the medical field. After talking to people who currently go there, I've decided to try to focus on my personal experiences as well as my goals & work experience that led me to want to be a nurse.
-I'm definitely stressed. I just feel like applying here is either a hit or miss with being accepted. This past time, I was pretty confident I would be accepted (since I was waitlisted before).

Hi I’m applying! I applied once before and didn’t get in, so I’m trying again. I’m just finishing my personal statement. I’m really struggling on how to format this one. I’m trying to focus more on my work experience. The first time, I focused on why I want to be a nurse, so I’ve read other forums and people really focused on work experience.
I hope you guys get in!

Hi guys!
I applied for Jan 2020 cohort and got in but I had to give up my spot because I got a divorce and then covid hit etc. I applied this go around for October start! I am nervous I won't get in this go around because I gave up my spot last time. : (
I just applied Saturday and I haven’t gotten a confirmation email yet. I was wondering if you all got it right after you submitted it or if it took a few days?

I just applied tonight and received a confirmation email almost immediately. it could be in your spam folder. If you recall seeing the page that says you're finished and can close or download your document, then you're probably all good.

Fingers crossed you get in this time!
I'm glad to hear the interview is casual, that's a relief! It's so much easier for me to collect my thoughts in writing. The only positive feedback I received from UCD's nursing program was that my essay was strong LOL, so there's some small hope if this essay is the deciding factor.
How do you feel about your essay this time? I followed the advice on discussing relevant medical experience, and listed the things that I learned and accomplished during my internships for my different certifications. I really tried to cover my bases as far as what kind of a student they could possibly want.
Guess we all find out in May? Good luck to everyone! Good news could be coming our way, LOL.
Hi!
It took them 3 days to respond to me. I bet it will be there today or tomorrow for you!
How long did it take everyone to get the confirmation email? I submitted on April 1, but only received the Docusign email & not one from DCON.
Good luck everyone!
Hi Maddy!
I don't know how to directly respond to your comment, but I applied on 3/27 and I got my confirmation on 3/29! You should be getting it soon!
