Has anyone been a DON that was demoted or let go after a bad state survey? Did you self report to the BON when you renewed your license?

Not sure why you would have to self report. In your state is this expected? How do you know?

I know a lot of DONs that have been fired after bad survey but never heard of the BON getting involved.
In indiana, when I renew my license, they ask if I have even been demoted, reprimanded, etc.
If your state is like this, you may want to offer your resignation once the writing is on the wall. Once you have a record with the BON it follows you.
This happened last year. I will be going before the board in December. Yikes!
Technically, I resigned after getting the choice of being demoted to floor nurse.

Self report what? The BON doesn't keep track of employment history
Really?! Can you put a link up?

Then you weren't demoted. You certainly don't need to report to the BON that you resigned a position.
Others may disageree with me, but I think you are in the clear since you resigned.

Since they gave you the option of staying on as a floor nurse, obviously they believe you are a competent RN. Therefore, I don't see the point in the BON involvement? You weren't fired and reported due to incompetency.
Bucky- I am also from IN and it does ask on your online renewal if you have been terminated, disciplined, demoted or reprimanded. https://secure.in.gov/pla/3723.htm
Yea, I gave a positive response when I renewed figuring honesty is the best policy! I was promoted from the ADON to the DON position and after our annual survey (before the 2567 came through, even) I was called into the office with the DVP and told I was not "progressing as they had hoped" and was told I was demoted from DON immediately. They offered me a floor position in another campus. I was given time to think about it. I told them later that week I was not interested and they offered me $2000 in severance. I was able to resign, technically but I was demoted first. Then when I renewed I answered honestly and then I got a letter to appear before the BON. I feel I was just a scape goat and I probably just dodged a bullet by getting out of there. But I have no idea what the BON may ask me.
