deliveries who attends

who attends deliveries besides labor nurse? do you have person to recieve baby? Who is the person-- whoever is available, nursery nurse, admission nurse or mother baby nurse?

We are different because we as mws in Australia take responsibility fo the normal births. If all has been well then only two of us are at the birth. Best place for baby is on the mothers chest, not on a resuscitaire. The second MW gives the oxytocic and then goes. If anything untoward happens then one presses the emergency buzzer! Instrumentals have a MW or two to help the dr, and a paed dr and nurse from SCN for the baby.

Yep, same here. Mostly its just me doing the delivery itself and my mentor acting as second midwife to give Syntocinon and do other bits and bobs.

If we suspect or know there will be a problem with the baby on delivery (IUGR, meconium stained liquor etc) we will have paeds in attendance for the delivery itself, or as is often the case, waiting outside the door and then leaving when we dont actually need them.

I guess I'm just feeling lucky that my hospital and unit wants enough people. we have the OB doc, two OB RNs(we do mom and baby) and always a respiratory therapist present. And we are never questioned on our staffing, pretty much our charge nurse that day gets however many she feels she needs. By the way, a pph mom and a crumping babe, either one alone, would take every one of these people plus some.:uhoh3:

And with the huge rates of interventions you guys inflict on birthing women in the states I'm not suprised you need to be "ready" for a PPH and a flat baby at every birth..........................We have PPHs and flat babies and we deal with it just fine without all the hangers on!!!:heartbeat

We have 1 ob nurse (2 if available), Md, and OBTech. if anything goes wrong with mom like PPH then the MD and OBtech take care of mom as the nurse assesses the baby and circulate around the delivery room
