Delegation/CNAs

Hi, I'm a new grad nurse, and I'm having a really difficult time with delegation. Whenever I try to delegate a task, I usually get an eye roll or glare from the CNAs. I have had CNAs say no to tasks multiple times and make rude comments. For example, I asked for help changing a 200+ lb immobile patient, and they said well it's 20 to 7 and so if this takes longer than 10 minutes, I'm gone. There are some wonderful CNAs at my job, but many of them spend the shift on their phone and taking long breaks while the nurses run ragged. Any advice is appreciated!!

I have been an ICC nurse for over 10 years, and this is a problem that just gets worse. If management isn't a presence on the floor, there isn't much you can do.

I took a class on communication and was told that the millennial generation has been raised that it is ok to say no.

Don't ask for help, instead say "I need". "I need you to change Mr X now, I will help." Sometimes it works.
