Debating on taking a break

Published

So I am taking micro now, hopefully A&P2 in the spring and after that I am done with all my pre-reqs.

.. I am debating on taking a year off and work so I can save up as much money as I can so I can pay for some of these nursing classes out of pocket. This should also give me time to take and re-take the ACT (act is required to apply) if I need to. I don't think I'll lose my momentum if I do this, but of course that would set me back another year.

Has anyone done this? Considered doing this?

One thing to consider is comparing how much you will save by paying out of pocket and avoiding accruing interest on additional loans, vs an additional year where you will NOT be making RN wages. So for me, it would depend on my current earning power.

If you take a year off, you might also have to start making payments on any loans you have already accrued- but not 100% sure on that.

That's a.very good point, I think I would have to take a better look at the job market here. Luckily I don't have any student debt. I would hate to accumulate a lot and sit on it while I'm trying to find a job :-/

Hey! Its so crazy because that is what I am in the process of taking a break now. My break was due to other circumstances but it all has its pros and cons. If I had a choice, I would have went straight there but thats because Ive been in school for years lol Im ready to be done! If you think you need to retake the ACT then do so. Make a list of pros and cons and which ever one wins, go with it. I wish you the best of luck!!
