The death of a 5-year-old Nashville boy who had the H1N1 virus has put parents on alert to look for the slightest signs that their child might be sick.

Max Gomez, who was a student at Henry Maxwell Elementary School in Antioch, became ill Friday and was admitted to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt on Monday. He died the same day. The state testing lab confirmed Wednesday that the boy had the H1N1 virus.

An initial autopsy did not indicate other health problems, though results will not be final for another 60 days.

Hallee Cartwright died just before 6 a.m. Friday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, hospital officials confirmed. The cause is believed to be complications of the flu and a bacterial infection.

Officials with Vanderbilt said she had been transported from Middle Tennessee Medical Center some time earlier that morning.

“She’s one of the most loved, beautiful, loving, tender-hearted students at (Providence Christian Academy),” said Murfreesboro Realtor John C. Jones, whose son Jack was a close friend of Hallee’s. The children have attended school together for eight years. “This has devastated our school.”

Bryan's family is still incredibly devastated and shocked by his death. Bryan started showing symptoms of the H1N1 virus on Sept. 17. Just six says later he had died. Dominguez says he had no idea how sick his son had become.

"We said today, 'How do you feel.' (He said) 'Ah, I feel a little better,' and then, 'I'm okay,' and then 'I'm fine,'" Dominguez said. "But we could see that he was not looking good."

That was the last time Bryan spoke to his parents. He had become so sick that he could barely eat. The next morning Dominguez went to check on him and Bryan wasn't moving. He was then taken to the hospital.

The community has already raised $13,000 to help the Pineda family with expenses. More fundraising is expected.

Children are the super spreaders. I sure hope they are pushing to vaccinate them early. I think parents will be hesitant though because of all the fear propaganda about vaccines. It's sad.

Summer Rockefeller, 10, died of complications associated with the new virus while being treated at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, Columbia County Coroner Vernon Collins said.

Members of Harlem Baptist Church, including Columbia County school board member Roxanne Whitaker, will hold a spaghetti supper Nov. 5 at the church to help Summer’s family defray some of her medical expenses. “Their medical bill, I’ve been told, is over $3 million,” Mrs. Whitaker said. Summer initially was treated at the Medical College of Georgia Children’s Medical Center but was later transferred to Egleston, Mr. Collins said.

At Egleston, Summer underwent four surgeries and spent two months in intensive care, Mrs. Whitaker said. During that time, her parents, Brian and Elizabeth Anderson Rockefeller, remained in the Atlanta area, Mrs. Whitaker said. “They (Summer’s parents) have lost their home and everything else due to them losing their jobs and having no money to pay the bills,” Mrs. Whitaker said.

Raymond began feeling sick a week ago and his family suspected the H1N1 virus. He lost his battle with the flu Saturday at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Raymond had a pre-existing condition that made him susceptible to the flu. He was hospitalized more than two years ago from Influenza B, the most common flu strand.

His family says the doctors at UVA worked tirelessly to try and save Raymond. They say the young boy loved baseball and had a great sense of humor.

Raymond's blood work will be sent to Boston Children's Hospital in the hope the hope doctors can find out more about the condition that made him more vulnerable to the virus.

Hayli's mother Julie says the virus hit suddenly and strongly. Hayli had complained of a fever on a Sunday a few weeks ago.

"She had no common symptoms like most people, like the flu bugs and the coughing and the sore throat," Julie Murphy said.

A couple of doctor's visits followed, but by Tuesday, the fever spiked to 104 degrees. The next day, it was even worse.

"(We) came back (to the hospital) Wednesday, when she couldn't walk, she couldn't get up, she had a 105.3 fever," Murphy said.

Three tests later confirmed it was swine flu, complicated by pnuemonia; Hayli was rushed to intensive care.

After several tough days, Hayli has been improving, slowly. She's still connected to a ventilator, and could spend a few more weeks in the ICU
