Death and taxes...

Brand new RN here...I'm wondering what taxes other single/no kids California RNs that make less than 50K a year, that don't have any assests to write off, pay, come tax season? Just want to know how much I should be saving? (I'm only 25, and I've never made this much money in my life, nor ever had to pay more than $100 in taxes/year!) Thanks!

Look up the federal and California state income tax brackets, and you can do the math. They're pretty easy to find on google.com.

Oh I would love to see your face when you get the first check. I suffer bi-monthly from sticker shock syndrome. It's when you get your check and look at all the state, federal, medicare, social security and other monies ripped from the what I thought was my money check which BTW I will not get hardly any of it back because someones got to pay taxes.

No really in all seriousness it can be rather disturbing. I mean I believe in paying my fair share but does it have to be so much! That's why I refuse overtime. It kicks me into another tax bracket and instead of 30% out from my check it goes up. I started to get weird like glaring at people in the store who were using the food stamp card and buying steaks and lobster or getting disgusted with all this government spending and waste. It has caused me to become involved. So good luck and as the previous poster said google it and figure it out. Hawaii is a big nanny state so the state taxes are shocking.

I like to think of myself as benevolent and giving but there comes a point............

Obama loves me right now because I've been working tons of overtime!!! They take out like a third or more for taxes. Gotta pay for that free healthcare!!!

honestly, I worked two jobs, grossed 60000 , had almost 3-4 grand taken out just in income tax, and then had to pay another 3 grand. at like 50000, just anticipate that you will owe.
