dealing with PB 22's

Hi...I work in a long term care facility which hold a 121 beds. Recently our health department is now focusing on "neglect". We have been filling out PB 22's alot more than we ever did. Is anyone else coming across the same? How are you handling it? What and how do you decide ..its ok to handle internally and not file a PB 22 ? Some of the things that have happened...I dont feel needed a PB 22. A reasonable nurse would of done the same thing? But the facility filed one anyway.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry...a PB 22 is a formal complaint that gets filed if abuse or neglect is suspected, and this is on anyone's part. All healthcare workers, family members, etc.

In our state we call them adverse incidents. We only have to file them if a person is injured in a way that we could have had control over the accident/injury. We report to the state any suspected or alleged abuse, as well as resident altercations. I think PB22 on all the "small stuff" that does not need to be reported is a red flag for the facility which could prompt a full survey if too many are filed needlessly. You say there is a problem with neglect in your LTC resulting in alot if reports being filed? Maybe your facility should look at the quality indicators tha would promote improvement rather than more reports.
