Is anyone else starting at DCCC this fall? I recently was accepted in the ADN program there and GTCC. i decided to stay at DCCC since I am already enrolled there.I was just trying to see if I had upcoming classmates on here. Also any advice from those who have been through the program would be very welcomed!!!

I was accepted for the fall 2012 program as well, but I am in the advanced pathway program. Are you in the traditional pathway?

Yes I am. Good luck with your program!

Im looking into the advance pathway program. Was it hard to get into? Also do u live in davidson county?

I got in the traditional program for ADN. Yes it was hard but doable! I live in Davie County

Congratulations! I got accepted into the traditonal program as well. I missed the orientation meeting though and was wondering what we are supposed to wear/bring to the first day of class. Good luck all.

We do not need any books first day and you can wear whatever you like scrubs are not needed until clinicals.

Specializes in Surgical Nursing, Agency Nursing, LTC.

Hi! How is the program? I have just applied. Have many people dropped out? I'm so terrified that I'll fail (if I get accepted)

I am in my second semester and it is a very challenging program. You do have some lecture but most of the program is Problem based learning (they will go over what this means exactly) and it is hybrid courses so you do have online classes as well. Do not miss classes or clinicals!!!!! There are lab days and clinical days each week. You must be responsible- staying on top of things and your reading. If you get behind it is extremely tough to get caught back up. There is a lot of learning through cases that you will read through and figure out what is important to study and what is information you need to know. Like I said YOU must be responsible enough to stay on top of it. There are great instructors and tutors that are there to help you and a study partner or group is a must but no one can make you study so that is on you to use your time wisely. I try to study or work on something everyday. It is challenging but it can be done and there are days you would just as soon take a fist to the face than pick up that book but you have to make yourself do it. You just have to take control of yourself and push yourself to do what you know you should and not procrastinate. There are days that your learning is online and this is where a lot of people have problems because you should use this time to really focus in on your learning issues that are presented and try to soak in the information and understand it. If you can understand the concept as a whole and you can explain it then you got it. I had a hard time understanding this the first semester and I was used to taking in the information and spitting it right back out (like anatomy=memorization). Nursing courses are NOT like this!! You have to think through things and apply what you learn to find the BEST answer to the questions you have to answer AND how to help your patient. I know that sounds easy but it is not as easy as it sounds. JUST BE SURE you do your reading!!!!!!! It is a lot but if you don't read you WILL NOT do well. I can not stress this enough. I read things over and over til I feel it is sinking in, make notes, read the boxed and bold info and try to retain those key elements. If I have questions I go to my instructors and the tutor. They are great and they will help you but you have to ask! Don't assume that they know you are struggling because if you do not tell them they will assume you understand it (until that horrible test grade!). And do not wait til you feel like you are failing before you go to them because there are not a lot of opportunities to pull your grade back up= no extra credit . Like I said once you get behind it is sooo hard to play catch up even with help. Remember that your classmates are also going through everything you are so study with them and ask ??s, watch to soak in all you can and do all you are allowed to. Never stand off to yourself and feel lost there are too many resources for that. Take advantage of all you have available. There are days you will cry, be frustrated, overwhelmed, feel lost, be mad, and feel like giving up----do not. There are also days you will be proud, happy, beaming, love your classmates, love your instructors, love your patients, and feel like this is right where you should be. Those days= cherish! Those are the days you wil remember in the end. Good Luck to you and hopefully I will see you there. It is a great school and I love my class and my instructors. IT IS HARD! but nothing worth having is ever easy to get. If it was everybody would do it. I am rooting for you!!

Thank you SO, SO much for replying back! I'm terrified, because I'm not the smartest person and I have basically no knowledge about anything nursing, so I am so scared of failing! Have many people dropped out in your class yet?
