Just wanted to chime in and see that some parents find that they actually get to see their kids MORE when they do 12s, because you only end up doing 3 days a week (obviously averaged over whatever your pay period is).
I hate not seeing my kids for 24-48+ hours when I am doing a run of twelves. But it is SO WORTH IT, because over all, I am home more than I would be if I was doing 8s or even a traditional 9-5 schedule.

I am currently a critical care nurse on a cardiac floor and I work night shift. Although I love my unit, I'm not loving the hours. I have had a horrible time with sleeping and it's starting to affect my health. I can't do a traditional 12 hour day shift either because I wouldn't see my small children and my hubby can't do all of the taking and picking up from school due to his job. My question is: are there any nursing professions that keep a more traditional 7-3 or 8-5, etc. schedule in a hospital? Thank you for any advice!!
