Hey Everyone,

Davenport University has as everyone knows changed there Associate Nursing program is to now a

BSN degree program! No problems there! I am however taking a Biostatistics class. Then I am taking a Chemistry class in the Warren Location.

As well do I need to have all my prerequisites finished to even apply in Febuary?

Does anyone know how hard the admission process is for the BSN program at Davenport?

How competitive is it? What type of GPA? Essay Style? Any tips to help out? What score does my TEAS

need to be?

How is the Davenport Nursing Program? Would your recommend it to others?

Anytips?

As well where are most of the clinical sites for the nursing program?

Thank you very much for your time, and I look forward to hearing your response.

Hello, I am a Davenport Warren senior. I walked in commencement Sunday and will be finishing the program this summer.

It has been an overwhelmingly positive experience. I had the disadvantage/advantage of being in the first cohort to go through the BSN-PL program at that campus.

You will benefit from the adjustments made based on our experience which was occasionally haphazard, but again, consistently excellent. I wish you all the best.

One word of advice: never forget that, as competitive as getting into NS is, you're lucky to be there. For every one of you, there are probably ten qualified candidates still beating their heads on the doors of various programs in our area.

So...NO WHINING!

Hi Anoetos, about how long is the nursing program? Do they schedule the classes or do the student chose?

Specializes in Emergency Nursing.

Once you're in the program, all your NURS classes are scheduled by your advisor. Any other, non-NURS classes you may have to take (Law/Ethics, Patho, Micro, etc) can be scheduled at your discretion.

I finished all my pre req's , I was wondering how many nursing classes can you take per semester?

Anoetoes! So happy to hear from you! As funny as this sounds, I was reading this thread while waiting to hear back and as you all received your acceptance letters, I got so excited for you (even knowing the thread was 3 years old)! LoL Congratulations on graduation!!! I'm so happy to hear you had a positive experience at DU-W.

vannostrand - did you get a copy of the course schedule from the advisors? They gave me one that maps out which classes get taken during which semester. The program is 4 years, but some students will be able to start in year 2. Are you going to the meeting on June 7?

Hi WorkingTowardsBSN, no I didn't receive a copy of the course schedule but I will be attending the meeting June 7th.

You're cohorted, so you'll al take the same classes. You can take electives, but I would encourage you not to, at least until you're done with Fundamentals. This is, in the experience of most seniors, one of the hardest classes they had to take. It's an immersion in nurse-think and NCLEX style questions. It will make you cry.

I know you don't believe it when they tell you you can kiss your 4.0 GPA good bye...

...believe it.

Does anyone know of a low cost or free immunization facility. I'm currently uninsured and the immunizations needed for the program are about $200 a piece. The influenza vaccination is the cheapest around $30.

I believe you can get most, if not all, vaccinations through the Dept of Health. My Mother in Law used to take her kids there because they did it for free, or for very little. Might be worth a call!

thanks WorkingTowardsBSN!
