Dartmouth-Hitchcock

Published

Anyone travelled to Dartmouth-Hitchcock in Lebanon, NH? I am getting ready to start my first assignment there..Also, anyone traveling there right now?

Haven't been there, but know of someone who is and they love it! They just extended their contract. Good luck to you! I'm leaving Connecticut now and heading west, but I loved the New England area!

I am starting on Monday at Dartmouth....I think I am anyways. I just received an email asking if I had ACLS because "the facility has just decided to add it as a requirement" interesting. I'm waiting on my recruiter to return my phone call but for now I'm freaking out a bit. Have you heard anything like this?

A number of hospitals are starting to require ACLS of all their staff nurses and travelers. Since this is a new requirement, I would try to get the hospital to accept you without it right now, perhaps with a promise to get it in the next month. Dartmouth should have a lot of classes, and virtually everyone passes ACLS. Compared to what it used to be, it is really ACLS for dummies these days. Study for it, but don't worry about it. Just have your rhythm strips down, and the algorithms.

I found out that my floor is not included in the new ACLS requirement. PHEW!!! I will be starting at Dartmouth on Monday on the Surgical Oncology floor. I am from VT and have heard great things about Dartmouth both locally and from other travel nurses. :)

So, just in case anyone is looking at this thread for advise, I currently am at DHMC and I do NOT like it. I will not be extending and hopefully will be allowed out of my contract early. I am hired for the ICU float pool. Part of my issue is my recruiter told me I was applying for an ICU position with the possibility to float. That isn't the case. And I am never in the ICU. I'm always floated to on of 7 of the step-down units or tele floors. And the worst part is the disorganization. Each floor that I float to has different codes for their med carts, clean utility rooms, etc. The charting system is just as unorganized as the units. They use EPIC, but whoever customized the EPIC system did not create a good flow and there is tedious double charting. And you can't copy/paste previous assessments. Ok, rant over.

Bronze1 I'd be careful to blame the hospital. I have worked with a few different companies and several different recruiters and they tend to leave out details in order to bait you in. I'd be very surprised if your company allowed you to leave the contract without a penalty. I worked on the surgical oncology at Dartmouth and loved it. I only got floated once in the 3 1/2 months I was there (I extended a couple of weeks). Maybe you could see if they have other traveler openings available that are specifically for one floor and maybe that way you wouldn't be penalized. Good luck. It's never fun to be unhappy at work even if it is only for 13 weeks.
