SeaTracer75, Any tips on what to study would be greatly appreciated. I'm already in a CDS position but my hospital is brining in JATA and I'm very nervous. I am pregnant and due in Jan so I can't afford to lose my job.

Bronze1 I'd be careful to blame the hospital. I have worked with a few different companies and several different recruiters and they tend to leave out details in order to bait you in. I'd be very surprised if your company allowed you to leave the contract without a penalty. I worked on the surgical oncology at Dartmouth and loved it. I only got floated once in the 3 1/2 months I was there (I extended a couple of weeks). Maybe you could see if they have other traveler openings available that are specifically for one floor and maybe that way you wouldn't be penalized. Good luck. It's never fun to be unhappy at work even if it is only for 13 weeks.

I wouldn't feel bad about changing companies. I have worked with three different companies in order to find the position I wanted. Don't be pushed into a job you don't want and if your recruiter isn't listening to your needs I definitely wouldn't feel bad about changing companies. It will involve a little more paperwork than if you had stayed with your current company but in my opinion it's with it.

I found out that my floor is not included in the new ACLS requirement. PHEW!!! I will be starting at Dartmouth on Monday on the Surgical Oncology floor. I am from VT and have heard great things about Dartmouth both locally and from other travel nurses. :)

As a nurse if I'm told something different from what I believe to be true I am eager to learn what the truth of the matter may be. I would have gladly accepted the lab manual as it would have been a learning experience. Sounds like this nurse was trying to swing her weight around.

If she knew the call light was going off then she should have answered it. This really frustrates me when RN's think they are above answering call bells.

I am starting on Monday at Dartmouth....I think I am anyways. I just received an email asking if I had ACLS because "the facility has just decided to add it as a requirement" interesting. I'm waiting on my recruiter to return my phone call but for now I'm freaking out a bit. Have you heard anything like this?
