Dallas: VA/Medical City/Presbyterian GN Pay Rate?

U.S.A. Texas

Published

hello all,

does anyone know the gn starting pay for the dallas va hospital, medical city, and/or presbyterian? thanks in advance!

I just signed on at the VA and it is "around" $25/hr, and that is without shift diffs and weekend differentials. They have the BEST sign on bonus I have seen. However, the best part, is getting to serve a very unique patient population!!! :yeah:

thanks for the reply angela:d. were you hired for a gn internship or a rn i?

GN, because I do not take my NCLEX until mid January!

ok two more questions if you don't mind lol. was it difficult to get hired there? did you have previous pca or healthcare experience?

I would say it was as difficult as getting any GN position in the Dallas area at a major hospital. It is very competitive due to few positions available as GNs. I worked as a PCA for a year and a Nurse Tech for 1 year in other hospitals. It helps to have experience, but your letters of rec, grades, cover letter, and your whole attitude and demeanor goes a LONG WAY!! You have to show how much you care!

Specializes in Med/surg, Geriatrics, Home Health, LTC.

Yes, the VA does, but you must be weary of a place that offers that much of a sign on bonus...... money isn't everything.

do not be weary....pls dont listen to anybody when they talk bad about the va.. the best benefits hands down!!! the best patients ever...you will never care for patients in any other hospital and truly feel appreciated by them like our veterans..the bonus is good but trust me when i tell you that there are more applications than positions, the private sector will send you home when the census is low, and its at an all time low everywhere, the va never ever sends people home..if you truly want to help people and really love what you do go to the VA..
