Dallas RN Position - Parkland Vs. Baylor

Published

Hello fellow nurses and aspiring nurses!

This is my first post but I admittedly have been a long-time lurker of allnurses.com. I truly love this site and the energy here.

In summary, I recently graduated nursing school and am now an RN.

I have been offered a residency/internship at different ICU's at Parkland and Baylor Dallas. I know they are both great hospitals.

I would really love to hear from experienced nurses about their thoughts on which one to choose. I am having a very hard time here. Both programs start within a couple of weeks of each other, and Parkland pays more, but Baylor has a slight edge when it comes to being a better place to work from what I hear. I've read a few of the threads here about Dallas hospitals and people always seem to be saying "choose Baylor." That's not to take anything away from Parkland because I've heard nothing but good things about it as well.

I am grateful to be in this position but would love any information from you that may help me make a decision. Loving my job and where I work is my top priority. Thanks everybody!

:D

I am not sure what the atmosphere is like, but I applied for the OB internship and got offered a position, but actually ended up accepting a position in their NICU (which is just crazy considering I have planned to work in their L&D for forever!!!) however, I will say that the people I interviewed with in both areas were so nice! Everyone in the L&D department was warm and welcoming, and deciding to go to a different area was the hardest decision I have ever made. No worries though, I plan to cross train, so I can work in both areas! but, I would just say be yourself, and come prepared with your resume and some backround info on the hospital!

Thank you so much for responding. I'm really looking forward to working at Parkland. Keep me posted on how things are going when you can. I would really appreciate it.:typing

Are they looking for previous job experience in nursing or in general on the resume? Just wondering how I should format mine.

Can't wait to see you in January....glad you decided to come with us!

Thank you!! Im really excited! Scared and nervous....but really excited!! Now I just have to find some place to live in Dallas.... lol

to PV101,

I am an extern in Labor & Delivery now, so I was able to put that on my resume, and I included all other health care related jobs that I have had as well. So, I guess if you have relevant experience include it, but if not I am sure that's okay too

Thanks for the reply and I wish you the best!!!:nuke:
