I have read on several nursing forums that DNI is not a good school, only after your money, not reputable, not accredited, etc. I did my research (as much as I could, I hope) and they are on the list of approved vocational nursing education programs for the Texas BON. And their over all NCLEX 2010 first time passing rate is 80.11%. Not the best, but certainly doesn't seem that terrible. Can someone please explain to me exactly what is so aweful about this school?
Thanks!

The cost of the school is proportionally astronomical when compared with what level of wage you are going to be eligible to earn. And if you look at other Texas schools, an 80% pass rate is dismally poor. The quality of the education itself is poor and employers do not want to hire from DNI. Combined with fewer opportunities to begin with, you get stuck with huge student loans and no job.

A person who completes a vocational nursing program at a local community college (El Centro, Hill, Weatherford, NCTC, etc.) will receive the exact same LVN license as the person who graduates from a for-profit entity such as DNI or Concorde.
However, community college LVN programs are regionally accredited, have excellent reputations, and cost about $5,000. For-profit LVN programs lack regional accreditation, have mixed reputations, and cost around $25,000. Basically, you are paying five times as much money for the same LVN license.
DNI is certainly approved by the Texas Board of Nursing. However, it is not regionally accredited. Approval is not the same thing as accreditation.
Thanks so much. I agree that the price is absolutely outrageous. I would prefer to go to El Centro, but I also work, and will need to work at least part time while in school, and El Centro does not offer a night class. I guess I need to start looking into what I could possibly do while in school for an income.
I really appreciate your input!

NCTC offers an online LVN program with clinicals on the weekends. I think they only accept students each Spring semester, though.
