D-Day: The Interview?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

hi my name is josh i am 19 years old. i was a huge computer nerd as a teenager than i met the most wonderful woman ever, we got married and after a long twisted turn of events involving osteomilitus (sp?) and iv therapy i want to be a nurse! i am going to an enrollment meeting for a 9-month lpn program here in ohio. i really hope that it goes well but i don't know what to expect.

i just got married on the 11th of last month and we have no clue how we will pay for the school and afford the rent with me potentially leaving my full time job but if i am supposed to be a nurse i'm sure that god will make a way right? :)

i'll let you know how it goes

later! wish me luck!

Hi, Josh! You sound very enthusiastic and excited!

Call your school's financial aid office and see if they can offer you any assistance and/or any ideas on what financial aid may be available for you.

Good luck and keep us posted!

You are too young to have exhausted all of your financial aid resources. Make sure you meet with a financial aid counselor ASAP. It should help with living expenses as well as tuition and books.

Good luck!

Congratulations on your marriage... and good luck on your interview!

Make sure you meet with a financial aid office to discuss your options. =)

Best of luck in all of your endeavors and congrats on your marriage

Good luck Josh, all the way from the UK.x

wow, thanks guys! :) it's really cool to get feedback so quickly. well it turns out that there is no interview, they call your application an "interview form" so i was confused. all of my paperwork is complete, they will be sending it to the promotions and acceptance board and i just have to wait for an acceptance letter. the meeting i went to was just a general info meeting which focused on financial aid heavily (which kind of helped) but for the 1st due date (august 15th) for tuition they will not apply any of your loans and only 30% of your pell grant. :o i don't really understand this but they want me to pull $2300 for tuition, $450 for a seat fee and $800 out of the air before my loans or aid are applied . maybe if i get my own loan from a bank instead of a subsidized loan through the school i can use it before the others. i'll have to call the financial aid advisor to find out. it was really discouraging but i'm going to do everything i can and hopefully god will make it happen.... somehow....

i am currently working at a tpa (third party administrator) for health insurance; it is basically a health insurance company. it is pretty cool, i see bills and get calls and kind of see what is going on but i am growing tired of standing on the sidelines and watching it happening, i want to get out there and help people and make a real difference in the world, i want to be able to see the people i help and see firsthand the impact of my work. i want to be a nurse!

i became interested in nursing because of my job and also because i developed osteomilitus in my toe from an infected ingrown toenail (pretty gross huh?) anyhow, i ended up having an inpatient hospital stay for about 10 grand (luckily we have really good health benefits here and i only had to pay $250) after the surgery they put in a picc line and i was sent home with a homecare agency assigned to give me vancomycin. at this point i was not married yet and my parent's didn't exactly agree with the idea... well to make a long story short i ended up getting kicked out while on iv antibiotics so i had to move in with my fiancée's parents and stay in the basement. it just so happened that stacy's mom is a bsn who works for 2 homecare agencies so between my assigned homecare agency and stacy's mom i learned how to give myself my vancomycin through the picc line and realized how amazing the human body is. i also learned what homecare nurses do and i think i would love it. stacy's mom also told me that i would make a good nurse and she got me a stethoscope for christmas:biggringi (i was really excited)

well enough rambling...i really want to be a nurse!:lol2:

Bless your heart, you sound just fantastic. I got kicked out when I was 18. I remember hating it when I would tell people, because they assumed I was being a horrible teenager. Not so!

I think it's great that you want to be a nurse. I bet you'll make a great nurse. Being married, you'll be able to apply for financial aid as an independent student. This is good. I don't understand all the fees for the nursing program, seat fee? Is this a private school, or public?

Thanks ;)

It's a public school, I think the seat fee is kind of a security deposit incase you back out at the last minute and they have to turn down another

potential student. They said it also pays for your graduation fees. I should be able to front that but the $2,300 by august without using my federal aid will be a little tricky :uhoh3:

Hello guys, I am so please I found this website by accident, I was wondering as I am a 2nd year nursing students in the UK, if anyone would be kind enough to let me know what the training is like in the US. I'm just interested to know how it differs to the training we do here.

After reading Kynrek's message(Josh- is it?), am I right in thinking you have to fund your own training?

Anyway, gotta go, getting reading for a night shift on a busy surgical ward. Take it easy everyone.

hey Josh before you go to a bank check out alternative school loans like sallie mae or citibank (only two i can think of off the top of my head). many alternative schools loans don't need to be paid back immeidately as long as you're in school half time or more. check out FAFSA website fafsa.ed.gov, salliemae.com

i'm in!

i have been accepted into the nursing program and i was able to get in the $450 seat fee so i will being my lpn classes in august!. i am in the process of applying for fafsa/loans wish me luck! hopefully i'll be able to pay for this ;)

p.s. thanks for the tips.
