D.C. Children's National vs. Children's Hospital of Philadelphia?

Hi all,

I am a current nursing student who has prior experience working with Seattle Children's Hospital - I loved working with them. I am attending Johns Hopkins and considering options in this area; I will probably do practicum with D.C. Children's, but am wondering if it is worth it to commute to tech and build a relationship with CHOP.

I am most interested in comparing D.C. Children's National with CHOP - but haven't found any posts comparing the two.

Right now I most likely have an opportunity to work in Seattle in the float pool, so I would have a 6 month on-boarding and gain skills in oncology, surgical, medical, and rehab, and after a year would also float to the Emergency Dept.

Either way I will spend a few years working off loans and imagine I may eventually want to be in a PICU/NICU, do global work, and possibly return for a DNP.

I am trying to decide what opportunities may be most rewarding.

While there are a million things to respond to in this post (and I appreciate them all) I am very much interested in new grads experiences with CHOP and Children's National -- either ED or PICU mostly. And, of course, if anyone has worked with both, has been in peds in this region for some time and has insight to share.. all much appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

What klone said.

I am in the Philly/BMore area, so still geographically close to DC but had never heard of Children's National until a little over a week ago. (A friend's child was being treated there).

I also know a decent number of former classmates who secured GN positions at CHOP. (This was in '06, for perspective).

Children's in DC has new grad programs for both the ED and PICU, NICU, and other places. Lots of opportunities at DC Children's
