Cutting ED Costs

Published

The ED where I work is trying to find ways to cut costs - using even the smallest changes - to prepare for what decreases we may have in revenue after the coming changes to healthcare. 1 sheet instead of 2 per bed to reduce laundering costs, clocking in and out at very specific times to reduce overtime, looking for items that we don't actually use very much and eliminating them from our product ordering (i.e. kidney basins - why? we have emesis basins and ED pts don't frequently brush their teeth).

Are there things that you reuse in your ED?

What kinds of things do you do to reduce product waste?

I'd like to bring up some ideas before its staff we have to cut instead of products :/

If you have any ideas, please let me know!

Thank you!

No pillows -- cuts down on cost of pillows (obviously) and also the cost of laundering pillowcases.

have upper management take a 10% pay cut, problem solved...

Quit giving Press-Ganey such precedence. Too bad payment for patient satisfaction scores is a standard.
