So, psychiatric nursing is my dream and overall goal! My class switch to computer testing exclusively this semester and I ended up failing my first exam with a 76% (need an 80). I figured it was still close enough to passing and I'll still be okay in the end. Then I ended up with the flu and didn't study nearly as much as I normally would've for our second test today and ended up with a 66%. Only 5 people actually passed, so I feel a little better about that, but our instructor said 2 questions will possibly be thrown out and those that failed need to study better and suck it up (I'm paraphrasing). That would give me a 70% but I'm freakin out. We have two more tests and a final still, but I have to excel on these! Anyone else been in my boat? Any encouraging stories or words to help?

Yep..been there before...and it all ended well. I'm there again right now in Med-Surg 2...and I'm confident that it will end well again. It has to lol. I graduate in 5 months and there's nothing that's going to impede that! All you can do is study harder and seek out resources if you need them. Hey, at this point passing is the key! Just focus on the prize and do what you can to remedy the situation. You will be a nurse!..and a good one! :) Best wishes!

Have you figured out what you're missing on these exams? You will need to get used to computer testing, because the NCLEX is computer-based.
I got sick on an exam day and bombed (what was REALLY frustrating was that based on my answers, you could see that I KNEW the answers, but had rushed through without reading the questions thoroughly. I had to suck it up and take responsibility for my own errors and swallow the grade.

Instead of "freaking" use the time to see what you are doing or not doing. Whatever you are doing is NOT working. You need to study more. Period. And don't say "I study all the time" because whatever amount you are doing you need to double it. You really want to be a psych nurse? You have to be willing to take the pain. Don't "feel better" because classmates fail. Worry only about yourself. Even if everyone else fails you need expect more from yourself. Good luck.
Thanks for the kick guys! I had some good news, 5 questions were thrown out, so I now have a 76% in the class. windsurfer, you're right. I've been throwing the blame everywhere but on myself. I sat down and made a study schedule for myself. This IS what I want more than anything and I WILL walk with the rest of my class in May. I've got a ton of work ahead of me, and it'll be well worth it! :)
You got it....we all have our moments. I am a psych nurse and look forward to you joining the crew!
