Currently in CCCOnline?

I am not currently doing it, but thinking about it. I am in Colorado as well, and it would be so convenient. I have two small kids and work weird hours, so online would be perfect for me. Just not sure I can afford it. Is it a lot more expensive than traditional classes?

Yes, taking it online is more expensive. I think its about 78.00 per credit to walk in, and 154.25 online (that has the COF taken out already). I just figure the amount I would save in gas and time (especially time!) saves me that - and I'm in Pueblo. I homeschool my two kids (14 & 10) so I know about the time thing. The best thing I like, if you are near a campus, you can go on a payment plan (at least I can through PCC)...works out great for me that way. The classes are great!

I will have to look into payment plans, probably contact the financial aid department of the school I want to apply to. That is a good idea.

That is cool that you homeschool your kids. What do they think of you taking classes at home? Do you use any of the equipment (like the microscope and slides) for them?

I'm currently in Bio 204 with CCConline. I'm in Wisconsin the total out of state tuition for me was a bit of money but I needed to get the class in so that I can start clinicals. Total cost with tuition, book and labpaq was $1525. The course is very time consuming because of the labs that you do at home. But the course is definitely doable. I'm working full time and taking 11 credits (A&P2 and Biochem through my local community college). I don't have much free time but I'm doing well in the classes. If you have any questions just ask!

I didn't have to go through the financial aid dept, they sent me to the cashier and I signed a promissory note. I split it into 1/4s. So when you sign up you pay a 1/4, then the month it starts and the next two months after that. You can make payments online too.

Since we have traveled so much it was the only way to school the kids (gone 7 months out of the year). I had a lab already set up for them, microscope and everything. I'm bummed because I can't change the eyepiece to 15x to get it up to 600x, so it looks like I'm going to have to buy a second microscope with the oil lens. Bummer.

My daughter has done really well in the HS stuff, she's 14 and a sophmore. I just signed my daughter up in an online prep school here in Pueblo (they are anywhere in CO) and they put her in Bio so she can get her credits and help me out with my labs at the same time.They told her at the school she could possibly graduated in a year to a year and a half. She aiming for a year. :) They will also put her into PCC classes and USC and pay for them. I don't think we will be here though, but if she could do them online (via CCCOnline) too, that would be perfect.

My 10 year old son just got to check out the strawberry DNA lab slides and he thought that was cool. SO he preceded to pull out all the slides I had (I have a collection) and go through them. Gotta love when their motivated. Should be interesting when I do micro and AP dissections.

I'm going to be getting all the pre-reqs I can via CCConline, I am so glad I get that COF deduction or I would have to find some other way to do it. I'm going to be doing micro, pathophysiology and HG&D next fall. I'm hoping its not too much. I'm blessed that I don't have to work outside the home and so luckily I have more time that way.

How many labs did you have to do? All of them that came with the paq or ones the prof selected?

Sand Dollar, sounds like you have some smart kids!

I think if you can do pre-reqs online, it is definitely the way to go. The science classes will be a bit harder and more costly (probably more time consuming as well), but with kids and work, there is no contest.

There are 13 labs for BIO 204/microbiology. The teacher is the creator of the labpaq and she's been very easy to communicate with. Some students have had problems with their labs....no lab results or unexpected results and she works with you to give you time extensions if the lab turned unexpected. She wants you to get something out of your experiments, so it's been really nice.

At first when I signed up for the class and looked at all of the requirements I was overwhelmed, but if you pace yourself it's definitely doable. I tend to try to do the labs at the beginning of the unit to make sure that I have enough time to prep the lab, incubate if necessary and then write up my observations. For chapter quizzes and exams, I usually try to read one chapter at a time and then do the quiz right away so I don't forget what I've just read. It's nice because she lets you take quizzes two times each, so if you didn't get what you hoped for the first time you can take it the second time to get a better score. The time limits on the quizzes and exams are generous as well and they are open book. I'm learning alot! And I'm glad I decided to take this course online.
