Hello,

I am 1/2 way through the Masters program(Education focus):heartbeat at Walden University. Wondering if anyone else out there is in the program or has completed the program.

Hello

I was wondering if you can tell me about your experiences at Walden. I am thinking of starting the program in Jan. for Masters in Nursing ED. What are the classes like and your overall experiences there. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

I have been very happy with my experience at Walden University. The last 2 course will be a bear as it is the practicum portion with a preceptor-getting the Portfolio together as the final portion of the entire course will be time-consuming but most of the work is completed prior to this time. Each course is 8 weeks in length with clear guidelines on what is expected:discussion posts, papers, etc. I have never been late with an assignment-I may not have been completely happy with my final paper, etc but my goal for the program was to do my best and NEVER be late with any assignments. There are hefty point reductions for late assignments or possibly not having them graded at all if turned in late. Currently I work M-F full time with a job that requires some travel and I have a husband who also travels and I have 2 elementary aged children with their activities.

It sometimes surprises me that I am doing so well as i was NOT an A student for my BSN-currently at 3.96 gpa

Time management is very necessary with this program as well as self-motivation. There were no group projects (already had a BSN-can't vouch for the RN to MSN option) which was something that occurred in other online MSN programs. I was willing to work hard but I was unwilling to take the heat for a participant who was not pulling their part-have had friends have this difficulty with other online programs-their group grade suffered because of the deadbeat participant-even after an appeal :-0

Let me know if you have any other questions.

The classes are great, the administration not so much.

Get your admissions stuff & financial aid stuff together now and get it to them so they have plenty of time to process it. I had to have had my transcripts sent twice; I think they use them for toilet paper. One person tells me that they don't have it and another says that it is scanned into the computer and they are looking right at it. It seems that one hand doesn't know what the other one is doing.

I don't want to discourage you as much as warn you to get it in motion as soon as you can.

I guess I had a different experience but I started the admissions process in June of 2007 and didn't start until September 2007 and didn't apply for financial aid. Anything that has extra hoops to go through-expect extra time needed.

Good luck!

I am looking into the Administration focus at Walden. How do the practicums work? Do you find a preceptor who is a manger and follow them? How many hours per week is required for the practicum? Thanks!

I did my practicums for Education. Needed to find a preceptor who had an MSN-they needed to be approved by WU. The total practicum time was 125 hours. This needs to be completed by the end of the 2nd capstone course. I worked around a full time schedule and had to take vacation time to accomplish my graduate education.

The Stats class is not the traditional Statistics. It is Nursing research. You learn alla bout the different tyoes of research. There are a couple of chapters dealing with math but it wasn't too hard. You do have to write a paper that is about 7 pages long.
