Hi there-
I just found out I was accepted into Modesto's ADN program for spring. I am super excited!! I was wondering if there are any current students there that could tell me what to expect for the first semester? Is it Monday through Friday and what times do classes usually start, end etc.? I know some programs go 4 days, some go 5...How much time do you usually study per night? I'm starting to get a bit nervous, but overall am mostly excited. I feel so lucky I was picked! Any input would be great! Thanks

Hi Jen,
Take a word of advice and try to keep yourself occupied in other matters while you are waiting. You will get a letter in November telling you details of what you need to do. You will have plenty of time to get everyting done, but get into the health clinic and get your health clearance started immediately when you get your letter. (Ok, you can't get into the clinic until you registor for classes and get your activity sticker, but do that immediately) You don't want to wait on that because if your health clearance gets held up, you can't work in the hospital. Last year several things changed at the last minue. Do not try to get things in advance or "call the office" because some staff members are not very receptive to your excitement or anxiety, and you may be told in not so friendly terms the same thing. The program is difficult to explain, but in the beginning you will be busy 4-5 days per week. At the end of the semester, obligations have dropped off (e.g. you finish skills and just have theory & clinical). It will take you a little time to figure out your schedule, but it's not bad at all. As as far a studying, you can't study too much for this program. Read all the material. In fact, read the chapters, then read them again after the lecture, then read them before the test. The students who relied on the powerpoints had a shallow understanding of the concepts. Get a good NCLEX study book like Saunders which has questions by subject. You can study the questions as you learn about each section. Review phys as you will be building on the phys concepts over and over again. The students that had a more difficult time had work or family obligations. So if you can work a lot now to minimize your work obligations while you are in school, all the better. You are in for a wonderful experience. The MJC teachers and program are the best! Congrats.
Thank you so much for the input. I'm very happy and excited that I was chosen. :)
I went ahead and ordered the Test Sucess book to start reading prior to the program. I'll look into the Saunders book as well. I went to the school today to turn in my paperwork and confirm they have my TEAS test results. I'm still in disbleief...so happpy!!!
Thanks again.
