HELLO EVERYONE, i need your help, i'm relocating to the houston area (i think) and would like to know who's paying what. i'm been in the nursing field since 2000. 6 years as a LPN and now 2 as a RN. what should i expect. I've read alot of the treads and has seen as much as 5,600/ month. Is this true? If so which hospital. any info would be helpful.

I don't know any numbers specific to certain hospitals as I'm just a nursing student right now and I know it depends on where you work but I've heard new grad pay is about $23 + an extra $3 to $4 night/weekend shift differential. In the medical center add a couple dollars to that but it evens out because of the commute (paying for parking, etc.).

Are you looking for info a particular hospital or city?

For all the RN/LVNS CURRENTLY working in Houston, do you feel that it's worth working in the Medical Center? Are there sufficient jobs at other hospitals in Sugarland, Pearland, Missouri City, and Katy or just nursing homes? I hear people say to choose your job by the commute and I'm very curious. I plan to live in SW Houston,Missouri City, Fresno or Pearland due to family being in these areas and I've always worked close to home here in NYC. With the gas prices going up, I really don't want to commute too long when we move out there. Are jobs available at hospitals in these areas? Is it a "big deal" or honor to work in the Med Center? Advice please.

This would be true if you worked overtime hours.

However, an RN with only 2 years of experience is not going to be offered a starting base salary of $5,600 per month in Houston.
