Current CNA starting LPN classes this month, advice?!!

Published

Hi everyone my names Paige and I'm 21, I'm currently a CNA in connecticut and have been for the past 3 years I start LPN classes the 23rd of July (nervous) I'd just like to know if any of you have any tips or tricks that got/getting you thru. Also anything in particular I'll need? I know my school provides the basics like books, uniforms, watch, bp cuff etc but anything else work for any of you? I'd greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks so much

I start in August, so I can really give no advice. But YAY for you!! Ive just been looking around the boards to get study tips and see how people stayed organized.

I would say keep on top of your studies! You are always studying, studying, studying, and everytime you turn around there is another exam and or homework assignment that is due. When you are in school and you know there will be a break or an extra day off some where pull out that syllabus and get a head start on that homework.

Goodbye social life, hello education.

Also being a CNA first gives you a bit of a leg up because certain things you have seen as a CNA becomes much more clearer after studying. ^_^

Thanks so much... I ordered a Kaplan nclex-pn review book and i still have 3 weeks till school starts so I'm just gonna skim thru that to get my brain prepared for all the stuff it's about to absorb over the next 12 months lol. Don't really have a social life as it is I'm always working lol so hopefully that won't be too much of an issue. Thanks for your insight!!

Congrats Paige! I will be starting the LPN progran August 16, and I have no clue what to expect! I am nervous, and excited! I am a CNA as well so I hope that helps somewhat! I have been debating about buying a Nclex book however not really sure which to buy!

Congrats pumpkinfuturelpn!! Hopefully we can stay in touch while in school saying we'll be going thru this around the same time and share stories!! And I was a little overwhelmed looking at nclex review books as well but I went on google and searched "best nclex review books" and Kaplan was the first to come up because it is the 2012-2013 edition which I figured would be better cause it's the most up to date information, I've also heard a lot about the Saunders one as well.. My best advice is just go on Barnes and noble or amazon and read the reviews from people on each book that's what I did after I discovered Kaplan and the reviews were all 5 star! Hope all is well and good luck on your new adventure :)

I totally understand how you are feeling about being stressed. Remember, take everything each day at a time and don't forget to breathe! Do you plan to still work full time while going to school? Some of my classmates were able to pull that off. I ended up going on-call at my CNA job at the hospital at the time. I couldn't balance both. If you are able to do it, I give you major kudos.

That NCLEX book you got is a good one. The one that my school issued me was Saunders, I hated the book, but I loved the disc. Matter of a fact, don't stress about all the info that you are reading in your kapland book. I think what might help you to start easing into school is by just answering practice questions. All of your exams in school will pretty much be NCLEX style questions. So if there is a disc at the back of your book pull it out and go onto study mode that way you get rationals. Start practicing answering questions so you get used to this style. It took me a little while to get used to the wording when I was having exams in school. When you practice answering questions, don't stress about getting the questions right or not, this is just to get you used to the sentence structures and the rationals will tell you why the question is a certain answer or not. I hope this gives you a good tip. Enjoy this break before school starts!

Good luck to you Paigeerin12! Just a few more week and we will be on our journey 2 success!!

My best advice is study, study, study wherever and as much as you can. Secondly, do not - repeat do not get caught up in the drama. There will be some, you can count on it! Just stick to yourself or a buddy or two, and keep it simple.

That's the best advice I can offer!
