CUNY Hunter Accelerated Prog. Fall 2011

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi! Is anyone else applying for the Accelerated Prog. for Fall 2011?

Congrats to all who got an interview. I wish you the best. Work hard and stay focus.

Congratulations to all those who got an interview! To all those who did not get an interview (I also did not get an interview), don't let this discourage you. There are other great programs in and out of New York. Hunter is extremely affordable, which makes it super competitive. I don't intend to sound preachy, but don't let this be the only program your life depends on. Don't give up and if you can, reapply next year. I made the mistake of only applying to two programs last year and was rejected from both. I was devastated, but the reality is everyone and their mother is applying to nursing school and it's only going to get more competitive. This year I applied to seven programs and I got accepted to one, waitlisted for one, denied from two, and waiting to hear from the rest. You folks are all intelligent. If you haven't, apply to several programs, your chances will be better. Good Luck to you guys!

The decision must have weighed heavily on the NLN score. It's like the high school SAT all over again. Most of you have incredibly competitive GPAs, and the fairness of this is REALLY debatable. You are all superb, top-notch students, and you WILL excel in this field.

Now that it is too late for most of us to apply to another program for the fall (great, dreams on hold AGAIN) it may be useful to keep in mind that if you take the NLN again, you will likely score much higher (just like taking the SAT twice). And regardless, any school would be extremely fortunate to have you. You will all be a credit to the institution you ultimately attend and to the field of nursing. Hunter's accelerated program has not been around that long, and a more established program, with greater student capacity, will recognize excellence when they see it, there is no doubt.

It is a disappointment. However, this field needs students of your caliber, your talent and dedication. Your goals will be achieved despite this setback. Best of luck to all of us; we will undoubtedly meet as colleagues one day.

o man i can't wait to hear back.. the dean said friday or monday right?

Foifi, were you able to get an interview?

OK I just went back and read this entire thread and realized someone said they went in person to the Dean and she said decisions would be made mid-May. It seems weird that the Dean would then come to allnurses and post differently, and not put this new info on the official Hunter website...Seems a bit suspicious, like someone is playing games. I guess we'll know tomorrow if no one gets any info.

No, if you check the hunter website interviews will be given first week of may, decisions mid may. I also noticed someone said that if you don't pay the deposit fee you won't be considered. Is this true? I didn't pay because I'm not registered for classes, did anyone else not pay and get in?

At the interview the dean said the same thing, that decisions would be emailed out by Friday or Monday.

unfortunately when dealing with CUNY schools this lack of communication and consistency is very common. the best thing to do if possible for those who end up getting in or for those who are going to re-apply is to try to find someone who is or was recently in the program and get the information from them about policies etc.

Ah, ok well that's preferable to mid-May. I applied to the generic pathway, no interview. GL to everyone.

Did u pay the commitment fee if you Applied for the accelerated? And did you get an interview ?

Did anyone get an e-mail yet? I can't wait to find out...
