Cumberland University Spring 2014

Published

I have been reading threads for a while and am really hoping for some feedback on Cumberland University, and maybe even Austin Peay for the BSN programs for Spring 2014. I have a Bachelor's Degree, and have applied to both schools now.

My transfer GPA with Cumberland is a 3.4 and I got an 81 on the Kaplan Entrance Exam. At this point, I feel like I have the best chance of getting into Cumberland's program from what I've heard. Is there anyone who has been accepted into Cumberland University's program that can tell me what GPA/exam score they got in with? It's hard to wait for the letters! I just heard back from my Austin Peay advisor last-minute that a couple of my credits from my UT degree didn't transfer, so now I've had to add more classes for this Fall semester at MTSU while taking pre-reqs, and just quit my job, in hopes of getting into one of the programs. I'm also applying to MTSU, but I have a 3.19 there after busting my butt in A&P II all Summer and got a C with a horrible professor and have pretty much no hope of getting accepted into their program. Any comments are appreciated!

As long as you meet the minimum requirements for Cumberland you will automatically get in. Most the people I know that went there chose that school since they were unable to get into other BSN programs. I have heard even if you have a 2.9 you could appeal and still get in.

Cumberland is a great program. It is tough like any other nursing program.

Thanks! Did you apply there? I just found out tonight I didn't know at the time I sent in my application I needed developmental psych and didn't put it on my app, but now I'm signed up for it for the Fall and need to note that on my application. Hopefully they will let me add that on since I already submitted it. I'm all nerves. Cumberland seems to be my only hope after hearing about all these other schools!

No I haven't applied there yet. I am taking micro this fall semester. It's the only class I need to start applying for nursing school. I am hoping to start next fall. Cumberland is my last last resort since it is so expensive.

I would love to go there I just need to look at how I'm going to pay for it.

That's an issue too for me. Luckily I do have some money for school, but sadly the most expensive school is the easiest one to get into. I'm taking Micro, a US History that didn't transfer, Development Psych that didn't transfer, and General Psych this Fall. Good luck to you!! I've driven myself crazy with this whole process, and was surprised at how involved some of the applications are. At this point, I'm just hoping to get into any program, since I didn't expect them to be so hard to get into.

Good luck to you too!

I'm applying to 4 different schools. Motlow and MTSU are my top choices. I have researched every school in the middle Tennessee area. I am more nervous about all the different entrance exams especially since you can only do one per year. I haven't had a math class in years so I pretty much have to reteach myself everything.

Yeah, the entrance exams are a pain, but you can retake the HESI at MTSU as many times as you can as long as they are 30 days apart. The Science was the killer for me, as before this summer I hadn't had any science classes since 2007 my freshman year at UT. Math is pretty rough too. I was going to apply to Aquinas and Columbia state, but decided to only apply to BSN programs since eventually you will probably need to get your BS, and I want to be done with school now and not have to go back for an RN-BSN later. Plus, it's really expensive to apply, with the exam fees and applications fees. These things add up fast. :(

That's good to know about MTSU's entrance exam. I read that Motlow's was once per year. I haven't done math since 2007. I was scared all of them were once per year. I'm trying to be picky on where I apply because like you said all the application fees and exam fees can really add up. I don't mind doing RN-BSN online if that means getting my degree cheaper since Cumberland is outrageous.

I was accepted into Cumberland's nursing program for this summer. It is a very nice school and I hear they have a good program but it is super expensive (around $9,100 a SEMESTER). They pretty much expect you to take classes all week and do your clinicals on the weekend. I was going to have to go to school at least 6 days a week if I had gone there. Plus there are a lot of extra classes that Cumberland requires compared to other BSN programs. I have all my pre reqs finished for MTSU but I was going to have to take a different psychology and Spanish 1 & 2 for Cumberland's program. I ended up getting into motlows nursing program for this fall. It is much closer to where I live and much more easy for me to afford right now. I will go back online to get my BSN thru MTSU after I graduate from motlow.

That's a good point. How long will the RN-BSN take?

Thanks! Can I ask what your GPA and exam score was for Cumberland? For me right now it seems like it'll be the best option. Since I have a previous degree, I got screwed my Austin Peay and my transfer GPA is a 3.1 which is much lower than what I graduated with. I don't think I have a chance with MTSU either.

I'm pretty sure the RN to BSN program at MTSU is a year and a half. I'm sure Cumberland is a great school if you are getting a scholarship but I was only getting a Pell grant and that's not even enough to pay for half of the tuition. I can't justify being in debt and going to school every day and even on weekends. There were women there with me the day we were supposed to register freaking out because we had no idea that they wanted us to have class and clinical every single day of the week. We could have clinical any day even on weekends and at night. Idk how anyone with a family would be able to go there.
