CU Denver Summer 2012 Accelerated Schedule- Is commuting possible?

U.S.A. Colorado

Published

Hi there!

I was recently accepted to CU Denver for the summer 2012 accelerated program. I just moved to Fort Collins from California and was wondering if commuting was possible for the program? If there is class everyday, I know it would probably be impossible to commute and still have time to study. Anyone know what the schedule is like or already commute without difficulties? Any advice is appreciated! Would love to attend, but moving again isn't really in the cards...I have option to change to the traditional track as well which might make it easier to commute from FC.

Hi,

Well, I have been accepted to CU Denver as well as Regis and have been struggling with that same issue. The commute is longer to CU from Boulder. The commute from Fort Collins would be a long one and probably cost you about 300 or more dollars a month in gas, depending on your vehicle. I called CU admissions yesterday and here is what I was told:

The schedule for the accelerated program starting in June is not out yet and will not be available to students until April. When asked if I can expect to be on campus M-F, the counselor responded "absolutely, and with clinicals probably on weekends"...

In addition, the program is changing from 18 to 15 months, so with more material in less time, you can probably count on being there very often.

To be honest, if you can do it, I would move. There are studios for rent within walking distance to the campus for around $500, including utilities.

Ultimately, it's up to you...if you can afford to commute and don't mind an hour or more each way, then do it...which is most important?

I can't make the decision either!

Any advice concerning Regis or CU?

I go to UNC in Greeley and a lot of my classmates are from Ft Collins. We have our pediatric clinicals coming up at Children's in Denver and many of these classmates will be getting hotel rooms or staying with family so they don't have to do the drive for just two days per week.

As the previous poster suggested, you might want to look at getting a cheap apartment to stay in during the week because that drive is going to be a killer. I-25 can be NASTY when there is a snow storm or an accident, let alone rush hour traffic.

Whatever you decide, good luck and welcome to Colorado!! :)

Thanks for your replies and welcome! I decided to go with the traditional program to make life a little easier (I hope). It seems from other message boards that with the traditional program, you can arrange your schedule to be there a little less often. If I have to, I will either do the cheap studio or stay with a friend once a week.

Joanna- Sorry, I don't know much about Regis, so can't help you there. Thanks for your insight about commuting though. Good luck to you!
