CSUSM ABSN Summer 2016

Published

I thought I would start a thread for CSUSM's ABSN Summer 2016 Nursing Program - for anyone who's taking pre-requisites, has applied to or is in the process of applying, and for support to those who become accepted (to connect with each other). I am from ABSN Cohort 19....good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Also, I recently wrote an article https://allnurses.com/nursing-study-tips/from-one-student-1020425.html with many study tips and suggestions for nursing school. I hope you find it helpful. Please share it or leave comments!! :)

I hope we hear soon. Do you know if anyone has been rejected form the program. I am reading through previous years and I don't see anyone saying that they didn't get in. Does anyone know when does the fall semester starts?

When did u get accepted? When did u apply?

I submitted the application and received the confirmation on September 25th. I then received my evaluation on October 5th and finally my acceptance letter on November 25th.

I was accepted into the Summer cohort and not the Fall, if that helps.

Oh that makes sense.

I am from Tracy area and I need an apartment-mate! Is anyone also concerned with housing? I just joined CSUSM ABSN COHORT 25 group on Facebook and is pending!

Hi everyone! I have been accepted to the Summer ABSN program which is in the Temecula campus. I live in LA county and will need to relocated...any suggestions on where to live?!!! I have found very little support and information form the ABSN folks, i have tried calling the nursing offices but was not able to get through :/

nope! I have emailed them and they said it will most likely be in late May...the fact that they tell us things last minute is very frustrating :/

you should join the fb group and post your questions in the group. perhaps one of us can help you out! :)

Hi guys! I will be attending another program so I will be giving up my spot for the summer cohort. Good luck :)

Hi everyone!

First off, congratulations to all!

I was admitted into the Fall 2016 Cohort. Super excited but I am freaking out a bit.

Since this program is through extended learning and it's termed "self-support tuition" not "state-support tuition" how does financial aid work for this? Do we have to pay out of pocket??? I submitted my FAFSA before the priority deadline of March 2nd. On my CSUSM portal, I am only seeing room and board and some other fees but I do not see anything regarding tuition.

Very worried and any help greatly appreciated!

Congrats on your acceptance to the Fall 2016 Cohort!! With regards to your question regarding self-support tuition, my understanding is that self-support tuition just doesn't follow the normal tuition fee schedule and that instructional costs that usually would be covered by the state are not covered, and the student may pay additional tuition to compensate for that.

For example, one of the other programs I received admission to (UC Davis) has a normal graduate school in-state tuition fee schedule of $35,083 per academic year. Due to their new MEPN program being a self-support program, it is approximately $15k PER quarter x 6 quarters = $90k.

As far as paying out of pocket goes, you may not be eligible for federal loans or federal financial aid because you are trying to get a second bachelor's degree. You may need to seek a private lender to cover your tuition. This is one of the reasons I am kinda weary toward an ABSN program because with private lenders, you cannot consolidate private loans and they're ineligible for public service loan forgiveness programs. Granted, as a nurse especially in the state of California, you will be able to pay it back in due time and/or your future workplace may be able to offer tuition reimbursement in exchange for time.

First, I would contact CSUSM's financial aid office and ask when they may have a full fin aid package ready for you. Since you've already done the FAFSA, hopefully they can get it to you soon, so you can see whether or not you will need a private lender or other options. Hope this helps!

I was just offered a spot for summer 16. Did you guys pay for the enrollment already? And do you guys have the calendar for the summer session? It's so last minute, and I am from la, so I don't know if I can figure out the financial situation and living situation before the session starts.
