Hi guys! I created this page, for all students who are applying to Sacramento State Fall 2019 Nursing Program to share anything in regards to the application process.

Hey guys!
I'm currently a Sacramento State pre-nursing student applying for their Fall 2019 Nursing program. I didn't find a page regarding this, so I created it for those who are also applying as well!
I thought I was rocking it with my measly 76!! Lol! Funny story, I got denied on the 26th, had my wife and mother right behind me as I read the email totally expecting to be admitted. I was mortified as I read "after careful examination of your application we regret to inform you that you've been denied!" I died inside. Immediately drove down to Sac to speak with anyone, no one there but I did leave my name on a business card. Then spent all weekend figuring out what to do. By Monday night I got the acceptance letter, needless to say it was an emotional roller coaster!!! Have fun on your trip!!!!

I applied with 69 points.
I'm curious if anyone at Sac State currently in the program commutes from a good distance? I live about 60 miles from Sacramento and I'm trying to decide if I could reasonably handle a commute like that on a pretty regular basis. Does anyone know of people doing that? Or is anyone who got in planning to do something like that?

Hi, kalei56. I just graduated from the program and can tell you that I know of at least 3 people from my cohort that commuted that far. First and second semester will be the hardest on you in that respect, because you are either at local clinical locations or Folsom Hall (School of Nursing) ~5 days a week. But, it is possible with proper planning. Have a back-up plan at all times, especially for exam days. See if you can stay overnight with a friend or family the night before important dates or early morning labs. Scheduling of third semester becomes slightly more relaxed (for most people), and fourth semester you will be at Folsom Hall only once a week. It is also sometimes possible to find a clinical location for your fourth semester preceptorship closer to you, if you work with the coordinators. Best of luck.

Third semester is split between pediatrics (6 weeks) and obstetrics (3 weeks of labor & delivery, 3 weeks of postpartum). You may also request a pediatric setting for your preceptorship during fourth semester, normally choices would include pediatrics, PICU and NICU.
Also... Labs and simulations align with the same peds/OB 6 week split, but lectures/exams for pediatric content are given for the entire 16 weeks. You will also have a requirement to do outpatient pediatric hours, which can take place any time during 3rd semester or during the summer preceding 3rd. Many people opt to do a summer camp.
Some psych rotations (2nd semester, 6 weeks) and most community health rotations (4th semester, 12 weeks) are with pediatric populations, as well.
Hi Everyone!
Congrats to those admitted!
I'm a current 4th semester nursing student (graduating this fall). If you haven't already, someone on this thread should start a Facebook page (i.e. Sac State Nursing Class of Spring 2021). If you are not comfortable using your real name for Facebook, that is fine; but we use it a lot to communicate between and among cohorts. Additionally, CSUS CNSA Board members will soon reach out to you through Facebook as they are the ones that organize incoming first semester orientation.
Might as well start a page for more people to find so you can get started as the people in your cohort might become a second family for you during the next two years.
If you have any questions, let me know!
Congrats again and welcome! ?
