Hi, I recently got accepted to csulb as a pre nursing student and I know well that it is like hell to get into the actual program. Also, I've found out that the actual bsn program is 3 years long . Anyways, my actual question is that are the students in university allowed to take their prerequisites in community colleges as long as it's transferable? Or are they suppose to be taking those in the university they are in. I want to finish prerequisites as fast as possible and I want to take summer courses in cc before I start my freshmen year. Also if there are any former student in csulb, please advise me how I could get in and get out as early as possible. Thanks!

Take your prereqs at a community college. SAVE YOUR MONEY. I got into CSULB (attended elsewhere), and I did everything at a community college. I recently looked at their program, and they do still have both a 2 year and a 2.5 year option (once you transfer). There's really no benefit to doing your prereqs at the university (I've never understood WHY people waste the money, but that's just my opinion). Make sure your grades at the community college are top notch, because, as I'm sure you know, GPA is EVERYTHING (well, almost) when applying to nursing programs. LB also has an interview, which they do basically once they've made their decisions, but they want to make sure you're competent and actually speak English and probably that you don't have a huge offensive face tattoo.
Hi, thank you for the reply!
So even though you don't take the classes in csulb, you're csulb student? If that's okay I really should take it at a cc. I also don't see why I should take it more expensive there then
You graduated from csulb? As a transfer? Could you give me any advises going through csulb?:)
Thanks!!
I was accepted into CSULB's BSN program, but chose to attend one closer to home at another CSU. I did my prereqs at a CC in another part of the state. You aren't a CSULB student unless you're attending CSULB. Regardless of where you take your prereqs, applying to the nursing program is the same. Even as a "native" student (meaning you're already a student at LB), you don't automatically get accepted (you still have to apply to the program when that time comes), or even a preference anymore (double check that last part, though, as things do change from year to year). When the time comes to apply to RN programs, you'll want to apply to as many as you can and see where you get in. You may not get into LB, but get into CSULA or something like that. It's best to apply to more than one school. They also have different criteria on which they base their decisions, so some students have an advantage at one school and others at another. Have you looked at the nursing program website? That'll be the best place to find out if they do offer any preference to native or local students. At the school I chose to attend, they offer preference to people from local schools, but not necessarily their school more than any other in the area, so there's no point in wasting the money.

I highly recommend taking the prerequisites at community colleges! I hoped around took all four sciences at a few different cc's.

Like others have already said...take the prereqs at a community college. GPA is everything so make sure you excel in all of your classes. If you look on their website you can find the nursing program brochure. They include local community colleges and the courses that transfer.
