CSULA ELMN 2011

Anyone else applied? I know they're supposed to notify us on April 1st but I'm curious if anyone who applied got any feedback yet. :)

Oh, by the by, has anyone who has had their interview heard anything back?

Thanks for the info again, bababaowman! We appreciate your input!

You're welcome, it's my pleasure. Besides, posting on here is a wonderful distraction from studying for my psych nursing final next week.

She emailed me today, but just to tell me she was waiting for the office of admissions to review my transcripts and tabulate my official 90 units GPA. She is hoping to hear back from them later this week and will be in touch soon.

I wonder how long that will take, given the busy-ness of the admissions office. I hope it's good news, and soon!

Hey innatchka and bababaowman,

What are the class sizes like at Cal State LA? I know the ELMN program accepts about 20-30 people a year, but is that the actual number for how many people are in the classroom? Or are the ELMN people combined with other people from other programs to take classes together?

Thanks!

Hey All, I just found this blog and read all of your posts. I have my interview on the 12th which is this weekend so am feeling really anxious like many of you. So for those who have had their interviews, did it take the entire hour and did she indicate how many people were being interviewed? On the website it says they accept 20-30 people into the program. I really hope its 30 people!

I too am in the same boat as many of you, I didn't get into UCLA but I thought it was a long shot since they did receive many applications. I have applied to a bunch of other schools but haven't heard back from majority of them, but I really like CSULA's program. And it think its nice for those of you who have already made the decision to go elsewhere to let her know and possibly give the rest of us a more fighting chance.

Also, which acceptance is more heavily considered? So if Ms. Hinoki lets us in and the University doesn't, what does that mean? I hope that doesn't happen to anyone.

So has anyone heard back from her yet? I'm hoping that all of us get in! :)

During the first 5 quarters, aka the RN portion, you take all of your classes exclusively with your ELMN cohorts so the class size is dictated by how many people Kathy admits. For us it's 22. You don't register in the traditional way either, they tell you when and where the classes will be. As far as clinicals, you have one or two a quarter in addition to classes. There are two sections for each clinical and it is up to the cohort to divide themselves up between them evenly. We've only had 1 quarter so far without at least one weekend clinical so good luck working that out!

When you get to the MSN portion, I believe the class sizes will get bigger in the first year because they admit students to fill the spots in each track not taken up by ELMN students and you have to take several general courses. In the second and third years they will get smaller as you split off into your track. Your classes will still be made up mostly of your ELMN cohort though. I believe the limit for each track is around 20 a year.

If Kathy admits you to the ELMN program, you are conditionally accepted into the university automatically. You will become a regular grad student upon completion of the RN portion of the program at the end of the first 5 quarters.

Thank you, bababaowman! I can't help but be so grateful for your time and help! We need more nurses like you! :)

I just received my acceptance letter!! Good luck to everyone and I can't wait to meet all of you!!

As the first known CSULA Acceptee, do you mind sharing your application profile? :) If you don't feel comfortable doing that in a public forum, you can pm me.

Congratulations in getting in! Did you apply to any other school? If you get into multiple schools, what's your top choice?
