CSULA ELMN 2011

Published

Anyone else applied? I know they're supposed to notify us on April 1st but I'm curious if anyone who applied got any feedback yet. :)

Hi everyone!

I am also going to be starting CSULA's ELMN program this summer and I've just stumbled upon this website. Been going back and reading all the posts; there's so much useful information here that I wished I knew about this forum earlier! Thanks to those who are already in the program for providing all the insight and answers to the questions posted. I am from San Francisco and noticed a few of you are too! The main thing I'm concerned with is housing as classes start in less than 3 months! Is there anyone going apartment hunting around May during orientation? Does anyone know if there is a website specifically for CSULA students to find off campus housing? I remember during undergrad our school had something like that. Any how, can't wait to meet all of you at orientation! :D

Hi bbdog322! Congrats on your acceptance! I'm glad I'm not the only one making a big move from SF to LA.. haha, I look forward to meeting you at the orientation!

Thanks for the information bababaowman! You're awesome.

Thanks RosePetalss! I went to undergrad down in LA so I know some parts pretty well. But not too familiar with East LA/Pasadena area. I can't wait to get away from all this rain we've been having in SF, but then again, don't really look forward to LA traffic either, lol.

Just sent in my acceptance email. :D I'll be commuting from the Long Beach/South Bay area!

innatchka and bababaowman, you both are AWESOME! I really want you to know how appreciative we are of the both of you taking time to answer our questions, especially in detail!

Anyways, wrightnurse, I believe we all have the same insecurities and worries about the future; mainly because it's so uncertain. But, I'm confident with the program, the direction and our fellow classmates, that we will help each other succeed!

As for the orientation, I know there will be dinner afterward. Is the event formal or semi-formal?

I was thinking it was just a casual event, haha. I guess we will receive more information in the packet?

I second everything you said 5unshine. Innatchka and bababaowman- thank you for all your help thus far!

You are welcome everyone, it is my pleasure. I wish someone had taken the time to talk to my cohort like this last year when we were in your shoes. It would have made our transition into the program much easier. Hopefully one or two of you will pay it forward and come on here to talk to cohort 9 this time next year.

FYI: The dinner after orientation is casual, we went to Marie Calendar's. I thought the school was paying for dinner but that was not the case, we paid for our own meals. If you go to MC this year bring cash, they won't let you split the bill across more than 2-3 credit cards. No one told us any of this in advance and it was a problem.

I hope the orientation isn't a business attire type of thing; I would much rather wear something more comfortable if we're going to be there for 4 hours!

And will we go to dinner right after orientation, or are we going to meet up later after the orientation?

Welcome bbdog! Yep, I will be searching for places to live around may too.

Rosepetals, I'm with you, I hope the orientation will be a casual event. I'm so excited to finally get to meet all of you! This is all happening so fast, June will be here before we know it...eek

bababaowman, I will make sure to come on here next year to help out cohort 9. I think all of us would feel left in the dark without all of your help. Thank you so much for all the great info :)

Sorry to break the flow of the conversation here, but have any other applicants who had interviews heard anything positive/negative back from Kathy Hinoki? Does anybody know what the waitlist procedure is like? Do you get rejected and then get asked if you want to be on the waitlist or does she contact you back saying she's put you on the waitlist? Man...April 1st can't come soon enough! My phone and email are going to be on lockdown!

I was admitted off the wait list last year. I never got an interview in the first round, I got an email from Kathy mid April last year telling me I was on the wait list. I emailed her back expressing my strong desire to be a part of the ELMN program asking her what I could do to make myself the #1 on the list. She sent me a list of things to do which I did right away. She then invited me to her office for a "meeting", which turned out to be a formal interview for the program for which I was very underdressed but it went well anyway. Kathy emailed me the next day saying that she was impressed by my liked determination and liked me enough in the interview to make me the #1 alternate on the wait list. About a week later, I got another email from her saying that someone had turned down admission and she offered me the spot.

Thank you bababaowman for informing me about how the waitlist process works! I'm really hoping I can get in. Kathy informed me that she will be letting me know in regards to my status at the start of next week. Just crossing my fingers until then...only a couple more days hopefully! Good luck everyone and congrats again to those who have already heard positive results!
