Csula absn summer 2017

Hello Everyone,

I noticed a forum hadn't been made for this year's application cycle, so I decided to start one :) I just submitted my application via mail on Wednesday. Hope to hear back from the program with an interview invite! Good luck to everyone who is applying this cycle!

I finally got the official acceptance from the university. Does anyone have any financial aid information/offerings available to them on the GET portal? When I look under that section it has no information listed even though I filled out FAFSA this year.

Congratulations to all who got in. Just wanted to give a word of advice for orientation day. You will have an opportunity to purchase... things. You are only required to purchase the white top uniform, and the ID (you will be asked to buy two and it's up to you, some people have lost theirs and were glad to have another, others were pissed they paid for two when they only needed one). I very super highly recommend that you buy your black uniform pants ON YOUR OWN! (there are a ton of awesome brands to choose from online). The ones you will see on orientation day are probably crappy and marked up (and the color will most likely bleed all over that white top). All the other stuff, like folding clip boards, t-shirts, etc you *do not* have to buy. Many did buy clip boards and were glad to have them, but you can also buy your own later. The lab coats they will have are probably not as nice as the ones you would get yourself somewhere else which would fit you better and probably cost about the same (even with the embroidery which I don't believe is necessary but double check, you will have to wear your student ID anyway and the lab coats are short which only students wear).

Hello! I plan on applying to the ABSN program this year. Can you give me any advice on how to be a competitive applicant/ what kind of students the program is looking for? Also if you don't mind me asking, what was you cum GPA and your prerequisite GPA? This is my top school and I'm nervous about how competitive it will be. Thanks for your time.

If you look in the first few pages, some people posted their stats...they had near 4.0 GPA's, volunteer experience, years of work experience, and 90%+ score (99th percentile) on the TEAS. So it's VERY competitive.

Hello all! I also am planning to apply for 2018 Summer ABSN. I am wondering what kind of experience or information that they are looking for in the personal statement, stats, etc. I just took my TEAS and scored inthe 97 percentile and have 4.0 gpa for prerequisites and about 3.7 otherwise with over 300 volunteer hours at the hospital as well as a job in a dr.'s office. Is this competitive for the program?

Hi, good luck with your application. Sounds like you're very competitive. Some more volunteer hours would be good though. Try to get as much patient care experience as you can, I think that's really important to the program director. She wants to make sure you understand what it means to be a nurse, what it will take to make it in an intense program, and that you really want to be a nurse. I think everyone that gets an interview is strong academically, so focus on what sets you apart in your statement. What made you want to become a nurse and why will you be successful in the program. Let me know if you have any other questions!

I would suggest contacting the director of the program. You could set up an meeting in person or on phone and discuss your application and ask about the chances of acceptance. We didn't all have 4.0s, I know plenty of people who were between 3.0 and 3.5. She does was above 90th percentile on TEAS in certain areas (forget which). She looks at 3 GPAs: most important is your prereq GPA, then last 90 quarter units or 60 semester units, and last is the overall GPA. Please don't be afraid to apply or at least e-mail her to set up an apt!

Thanks for the information - do you mind elaborating on who she/her is? Haha, thanks!

I'm sorry for the late reply! Since the forum will not allow me to post her name etc I suggest you call the school or poke around online. Just ask for the ABSN director info when you call, they'll tell you.

Does anyone have tips for the interview? Is it a one-on-one with the program director? Looking for any advice to really nail the interview!

Hi, when I interviewed last year it was one on one with the program director. There seemed to be a major focus on how you stand out from other applicants (everyone has excellent GPA, teas, etc). So think about what is unique that you can bring to the program. Other than that just be confident, id say the interview questions are pretty standard. Let me know if you have other questions!

Do you remember any of the questions? And what was the writing sample like? My interview is next week!
