Hey guys, I'm new to allnurses.com and I have a question for anyone who was accepted to Cal State East Bay's nursing program. I have 3 pre-reqs. to finish (Philosophy, Stats & Micro) before I apply to the program. My current GPA is a 3.3 (not counting the last classes I need to finish). I doubt that I'll be able to get straight A's on my last classes, and even if I did my GPA would only be raised to a 3.5. Do you guys think I could make it into the program?
hey want2banurse35,That seems to be the back-up plan for a lot of pre nursing students at csueb, lol. It's not a bad one, either. What exactly is health administration by the way? Like what kind of jobs could you get and what would you be doing?
Anyway, do what you feel you should do. I too don't want to wait that long to enter into a nursing program either. Do what's best for you and your family. Good luck in whatever you choose to do!
It is just like a business degree only it is focused on the health aspect. You can work at hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies basically anyplace that has to do with health. My concentration would be in management. They make a decent salary. My cousin was a health administration major, he concentrated in finance and he now has a very lucrative job with Kaiser as one of they purchasers.

Well the good thing about majoring in something else is that you're not just 'waiting around' to get into nursing, you're doing something worthwhile in the meantime. So, if it takes you two more years than you thought to get into the program, you should still do it, you'll just have an extra major or degree behind you. One of the nursing directors at my hospital got a degree in biology before she went to nursing school, and it just helps her a bunch and makes her more qualified for her job.
